Son Goku grinned, put on the Sunglasses, and pushed them up the bridge of his nose.

Then he took a deep breath and looked toward the white light in the distance.

But as he looked, the light grew brighter as it drew closer.

The Sunglasses couldn't block its blinding glare at all.

Son Goku couldn't help crying out. He quickly took off the glasses and rubbed his eyes over and over.

His eyes were bloodshot, and tears streamed down his face.

Bang!

The Flying Nimbus carrying Son Goku slammed into a steep cliff.

Rocks flew everywhere, and dust billowed through the air.

Son Goku tumbled off the cliff, flipping several times in midair.

Just before he hit the ground, he quickly righted himself and landed steadily on his feet.

Son Goku rubbed his bruised body, grimacing and baring his teeth.

He rubbed his eyes again and forced a helpless smile.

"What's going on?" Son Goku asked, confused. He scratched his head. "Are sunglasses useless?"

He put on the sunglasses again and looked up at the sun.

The sunlight was softened by the lenses, and looking at the sun didn't bother him at all.

So why did looking at that ball of white light hurt his eyes so much?

Son Goku frowned, unable to make heads or tails of it.

"Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo's ki are all here," Son Goku murmured, rubbing his chin. "The three of them are still alive... One of those two Saiyans' ki disappeared just now, but the other one is still there!"

He paused and closed his eyes to sense the area.

"I don't know who's fighting that Saiyan. There's a completely unfamiliar ki at the scene, but it isn't very strong. Could that person be fighting them?"

Son Goku opened his eyes, a hint of confusion in his gaze.

Smack!

He jumped onto the Flying Nimbus again, planting both feet on the golden cloud.

Son Goku took a deep breath and pointed ahead.

The Flying Nimbus carried him toward Soro.

This time, though, Son Goku didn't dare look at that dazzling white light again.

He turned his head to the side, keeping track of the direction only out of the corner of his eye.

The golden Flying Nimbus streaked across the sky, drawing closer and closer to the wasteland shrouded in white light.

He was flying along at full speed when—

Whoosh!

Son Goku suddenly felt something flash past him.

He instinctively turned to look behind him.

Soon, he spotted a sharp-haired man flying away at incredible speed.

He looked like he was fleeing for his life, and he was moving astonishingly fast.

"What incredible speed!" Son Goku stopped the Flying Nimbus and stared in amazement at Vegeta as he flew away.

He scratched his head, frowning slightly.

Just as Son Goku was standing there in a daze—

Whoosh!

The dazzling ball of white light came hurtling toward him.

It was moving even faster than the man who had just flown past.

Son Goku glanced back, and his eyes took the full force of the glare.

"Ah!"

Son Goku cried out and reflexively raised a hand to cover his eyes.

His face changed in alarm, and he hurriedly steered the Flying Nimbus down toward the ground.

"Goku, over here!" Krillin's eyes lit up. He hurriedly shouted to Son Goku, waving frantically.

"Dad, we're over here!" Son Gohan cried, tears streaming down his flushed cheeks.

"Let's go get him," Piccolo told Krillin and Son Gohan in a low voice. "The light got him in the eyes."

The two didn't hesitate. They immediately took off and flew to Son Goku's side.

"Krillin? Gohan?" Son Goku couldn't see clearly, but he could still sense their ki.

He blinked a few times, but his vision remained blurry.

"Goku, you're finally here!" Krillin let out a long sigh of relief, a relieved smile spreading across his face.

Piccolo also flew over from the distance and landed softly beside Son Goku.

"What exactly happened?" Son Goku asked, rubbing his eyes with a helpless laugh as his eyelids twitched. "What's that ball of white light?"

"Goku, weren't you wearing Sunglasses?" Krillin pointed at the glasses resting on Son Goku's forehead, looking puzzled. "How did you get hit too?"

"I don't know." Son Goku shook his head, took off the sunglasses to look at them, then put them back on his head. "They're completely useless."

"Huh?" Krillin scratched his bald head and pondered aloud. "Even Sunglasses don't work? Is it some kind of magical attack?"

"What happened?" Son Goku asked urgently.

Krillin immediately told Son Goku everything that had happened, leaving nothing out.

He started with Vegeta and Nappa's arrival, then told him how Yamcha, Chiaotzu, and Tien Shinhan had died.

Krillin's voice grew quieter, and his fists clenched.

"Yamcha... Chiaotzu... Tien Shinhan..." Son Goku was overcome with grief and fury. His teeth ground together, and his eyes reddened.

"Chiaotzu's already died twice," Krillin sighed helplessly, lowering his head. "I'm afraid he can't be brought back again."

Son Goku fell silent for a moment, took a deep breath, then looked toward Nappa.

"Ah... ah..."

Nappa was somehow still alive, struggling over there.

His body lay in two pieces in a pool of blood, and his remaining hand weakly clawed at the ground.

But his condition was dire.

His body had been cut in half at the waist, one arm was missing, and there was a hole in his thigh.

Blood stained the soil beneath him, and his breathing was weak and ragged.

Fortunately, Saiyans were tough. An ordinary person would have been long dead.

Saiyans really were tenacious. In the original story, Frieza's beam had pierced Vegeta's heart, yet he had still managed to say several more words.

"This guy's still alive!" Krillin exclaimed, the corner of his mouth twitching.

Piccolo and the others walked over and stopped beside Nappa.

They gathered in a circle, looking down at his mangled body.

"Damn it!" Nappa clenched his fist and glared at Son Goku and the others, his eyes full of hatred. "This wasn't supposed to happen! You bunch of ants! You're the ones who should be dead!"

"That Vegeta who came with you..." Piccolo said with a mocking smile, the corners of his mouth curling up. "He's in terrible shape now. You've lost!"

"Impossible! It can't be!" Nappa gritted his teeth and shouted, his voice trembling with pain. "Vegeta will kill him for sure. Then it'll be your turn to die!"

Bang!

Piccolo swung his palm down, and a burst of force shot from it, ending Nappa's life on the spot.

Nappa's head lolled to one side. His eyes remained open, but his body had gone completely still.

"Pah!" Piccolo spat on Nappa's body, his gaze icy. "Trash!"
