Kudo Mitsunobu, who had just happened to walk up behind the group, wore a faint smile on his lips.

Chapter 9: Let's Leave It At That

"Who are you?"

Shiba Tatsuya shifted his feet slightly to the right, shielding Shiba Miyuki behind him.

The others on the scene also displayed wary expressions; after all, Kudo Mitsunobu had been standing right behind Saegusa Mayumi just a moment ago.

Although Kudo Mitsunobu hadn't spoken then, they had assumed he was returning to settle a score.

Shiba Tatsuya, however, was different from the others; he suspected that Kudo Mitsunobu was the very person whose gaze had been probing him earlier.

That was why he had hidden Shiba Miyuki behind him—if Kudo Mitsunobu had any malicious intent, he would be ready to strike immediately.

Kudo Mitsunobu naturally sensed their wariness, shrugged, and offered a gentle smile.

"Hello everyone, I'm Kudo Mitsunobu from Class 1-C."

"I truly apologize for the attack earlier."

Kudo Mitsunobu then turned his gaze toward the large fellow in the crowd.

"Kudo."

Shiba Tatsuya's pupils constricted, though he returned to his usual calm, unruffled expression in an instant.

"It's fine, you were clearly controlling the intensity of your attack, weren't you?" The large fellow laughed heartily, clearly unbothered by what had just happened.

"Well! I do have a bit of confidence in my control."

"By the way, my name is Saijo Leonhart. If you don't mind, just call me Leo."

Kudo Mitsunobu's gentle attitude toward everyone, combined with his immediate apology upon appearing, earned him their goodwill, and the people present began to introduce themselves to one another.

After all, they weren't particularly familiar with each other; Mitsui Honoka and Kitayama Shizuku were Course 1 Students, while the others were Course 2 Students, and the two groups hadn't had much interaction.

The only real connection was Mitsui Honoka's admiration for Shiba Tatsuya.

Shiba Tatsuya temporarily lowered his guard, though he figured he would still conduct an investigation into Kudo Mitsunobu once he got home.

Of course, Kudo Mitsunobu felt the same way.

Right now, his interest in the Shiba siblings was quite high.

"Anyway, it's getting late. Shall we head out?"

"There's a cafe near the station; I've been there, the atmosphere is decent, and the coffee is quite good."

The group of eight—Course 1 Students Shiba Miyuki, Mitsui Honoka, Kitayama Shizuku, and Kudo Mitsunobu, along with Course 2 Students Shiba Tatsuya, Erika, Saijo Leonhart, and Shibata Mizuki—sat down at a large table. They didn't separate into Course 1 and Course 2 groups as they did at school.

Instead, they sat mixed together; for instance, Kudo Mitsunobu was sitting next to Erika and Kitayama Shizuku.

Kudo Mitsunobu glanced at a message that had just arrived on his terminal, then placed the device back on the table.

"Honestly, to think she could predict this, yet she pretended to know nothing earlier."

"Shiba-san, the President just sent me a message saying you are to come to the Student Council for lunch tomorrow at noon!"

Shiba Miyuki gave a soft "mm," indicating she understood.

Kudo Mitsunobu then looked at Shiba Tatsuya.

"Tatsuya-kun, you don't mind if I call you that, do you? It's a bit hard to distinguish when I call both you and your sister 'Shiba-san'."

"Of course. I'll just call you Mitsunobu, then."

Shiba Tatsuya nodded calmly. It wasn't that he felt any particular fondness for Kudo Mitsunobu, but rather that it was his way of maintaining his sister's pleasant high school life.

As long as someone didn't threaten his sister, he would always present this gentle facade.

"The President didn't just invite your sister; Tatsuya-kun, you are expected to come along as well!"

"Me?"

Shiba Tatsuya was clearly taken aback, but he agreed nonetheless.

After all, in his view, it was impossible for the Student Council President to have any business with a Course 2 Student like him; perhaps she just had some matters regarding his younger sister that she needed to relay.

"But, Mitsunobu, are you close with the President? Aren't you also a first-year student who just enrolled?"

Leo, who had been silent on the side the entire time, suddenly spoke up. After all, he was the only one present who hadn't realized what the name Kudo Mitsunobu signified.

"Are you an idiot?"

Chiba Erika looked at Leo with the gaze one might reserve for a carbon-based lifeform.

"What do you mean by that, woman? What right do you have to talk to me like that?"

Leo was clearly starting to get fired up. This woman had been picking fights with him ever since they met this morning, and now she was actually calling him an idiot.

"Leo, you're the one in the wrong this time!"
