Shiba Miyuki spoke up from beside them.
"Leo, the president's surname is Saegusa, and Koushu's surname is Kudou. Don't you understand why those two know each other now?"
"I get it!"
Leo understood immediately. He wasn't a complete idiot, after all. He at least knew the surnames of the Ten Master Clans that ruled Japan's magical world by heart.
"Your reasoning is pretty sound, but I still want to say that Senior and I didn't know each other before!"
"We first met when the school year began."
"Then how did you two get so close?"
Kitayama Shizuku asked, her expression somewhat blank.
"It's a little embarrassing to say, but we got to know each other because Senior asked me to join the Student Council."
Koushu scratched his head with feigned nonchalance, pretending to be embarrassed.
Half the people there didn't know the inside story or the strict requirements for joining the Student Council, so all they could do was express their admiration.
Those who knew, like Kitayama Shizuku and the Shiba Siblings, didn't ask questions that would spoil the mood.
"But Koushu really is easygoing! He's nothing like the children of those big families."
Shibata Mizuki, who had been quietly drinking coffee off to the side, suddenly spoke up.
"Yeah, totally. Nothing like that Morisaki Shun guy from earlier."
"Exactly." Leo folded his arms and nodded in agreement.
"I'm glad you think so highly of me, but not everyone is like Morisaki."
"You don't need to worry about that, though. As far as I'm concerned, everyone here is talented and capable."
"Once the president gets back to us, you'll definitely be able to move up."
Koushu spoke with conviction. He and Saegusa Mayumi had originally planned to make it happen through backroom dealings.
But after observing everyone carefully, he could tell that none of them were ordinary.
"What do you mean, move up?"
Shiba Miyuki sounded impatient. She had picked up on something in Koushu's words.
After all, she was very unhappy that her brother had been placed in Course 2. He was clearly so talented.
"Let's leave it at that. That's all I can say for now."
"You'll understand once the president fully implements the new policy."
Koushu raised his hand to signal everyone to stop, tempering their growing excitement.

Chapter 10: No Ordinary People
"But what makes you think we're talented? We've already been classified as Course 2 Students." Chiba Erika propped her cheek on one hand and asked with interest.
She was confident in herself and knew she was no worse than anyone in Course 1. But she was curious how Koushu had figured it out.
"I could tell, of course."
"Tell?"
"Yeah. I think my eyesight is pretty good. I clearly saw you fill your CAD with psions just now, Chiba."
Koushu pointed to his eyes.
"I'm impressed you could tell that was my CAD!" Chiba Erika laughed brightly.
"That thing's a CAD?" Leo looked at Chiba Erika in surprise.
Leo's expression clearly pleased Chiba Erika, and her smile grew even wider.
"But the amount of psions needed to fill that specialized CAD is enormous! If you have that much psionic energy, Erika, how did you end up in Course 2?" Shiba Miyuki asked, a little curious.
"It's not that dramatic. If I had to keep pouring psions into it, I'd definitely run out."
Chiba Erika paused, then continued.
"I only inject psions at the moment my weapon hits the other one with each swing. That way, I don't use up too many."
"Hmm... So it's a bit like how [Helmet Splitter] works."
"Erika, I think the fact that you can use a technique like that is more surprising than the amount of psions you can inject!"
"Besides, a technique like [Helmet Splitter] could be considered a secret art of your family!"
Shiba Miyuki had clearly voiced what everyone was thinking, and the others nodded in agreement.
"Really?"
"What about everyone else? How did you figure them out?" Chiba Erika pressed on.
Koushu and Chiba Erika stared at each other for a few seconds. Then he finally gave in with a rueful expression.
"All right, I'll tell you more."
"Leo, you don't mind if I talk about you, do you?"
A magician's abilities were among the most sensitive information they had. As mentioned before, if one person knew all the magic another could use and excelled at, then in a fight to the death, the one whose opponent knew more about them would definitely lose. The other side could set an ambush in advance based on the characteristics of their magic.
That was why Koushu had to get Leo's permission. Carelessly revealing someone else's magic could easily make enemies.
"Go ahead."
