Joining the Student Council

After Leo gave his approval, Kudo Mitsunobu continued.

"From what I saw, Leo, you hardened your whole body three times in the two seconds right after you charged in!"

"I felt like, with how tough your body was at the time, you could've taken my Psion Bullet head-on and still come through without a scratch."

"That's Sequential Expansion, isn't it?" Mitsui Honoka couldn't stay silent anymore.

She hadn't said anything up to that point because her naturally shy personality left her unsure what to say.

But who could've guessed that their conversation would get more and more astonishing? They were only Course 2 Students, yet one of them knew Helmet Splitter and another could use the advanced technique of Sequential Expansion.

Even among A-rank magicians, only a handful could master techniques like these. To see them in the hands of Course 2 Students was downright shocking.

"You're really impressive, Koushu," Leo said with his arms crossed, full of admiration.

Of course, Kudo Mitsunobu had noticed a few other things as well, but those involved confidential details about Leo's body. Even with his permission, he couldn't go around blabbing about everything.

His eyes are just as sharp as I suspected. I'll have to be careful not to reveal too much in front of him.

Shiba Tatsuya had confirmed his earlier suspicions and thought to himself.

"Listening to you all, you're all so amazing. Does that mean ordinary people are pretty rare at our high school?" Shibata Mizuki murmured softly.

"I'd say anyone who can get into a Magic High School is already far from ordinary."

After taking a sip of coffee, Kitayama Shizuku delivered her blunt assessment.

"Still, your eyes really are amazing! You were so far away, and there wasn't even any contact during the exchange, yet you could tell all that."

Chiba Erika was clearly convinced now. Before, she'd thought Kudo Mitsunobu was just making things up on the spot and saying whatever sounded flattering.

That was why she'd asked him to explain himself plainly. She hated people who talked a lot of nonsense.

But he'd laid out his reasoning, proving he really could tell all that just by looking. Naturally, she had nothing more to say.

"By the way, Koushu, based on where your family lives, shouldn't you be going to Second High School?"

"What made you come here instead?"

Shiba Tatsuya tried to fish for information.

"Come here on purpose? Not really!"

"My older brothers and sisters all go to Second High School, so I wanted a change of scenery. That's why I came to First High School."

Kudo Mitsunobu naturally couldn't reveal the truth.

The truth is, I know Japan's about to go through a series of events, and First High School is right at the center of them.

How could I possibly say that out loud?

"Besides, I've lived with my family all my life, so I was looking forward to living on my own. I figured I might as well move out and go to First High School."

"I see," Shiba Tatsuya replied calmly.

"Hey, Koushu, do you live by yourself?" Saijo asked.

"Yeah. My family has a house nearby, so I moved in. You're all welcome to come over sometime."

"I'll make sure to give you a proper welcome."

"Don't let my looks fool you. I'm fairly confident in my cooking, too!"

"Where'd a perfect man like you come from? You've got a good family, you look decent, you're strong at magic, and you can cook, too."

Chiba Erika had never met a guy like that. At least, there wasn't anyone like him among the people she knew.

Even her beloved second brother was only good at magic and a nice person.

"Then I'll take that as a compliment," Kudo Mitsunobu said with a smile.

"Sorry, let's call it a day. It's getting late."

Kitayama Shizuku glanced at the sky outside, which had gradually grown dim, then stood and made the suggestion.

Nobody there had a curfew or anything like that, but these days, ordinary people generally didn't stay out too late without a good reason.

"Good idea. I had a great time talking with you all."

"Then let's exchange contact information before we go. That way, we can all go out together sometime."

Kudo Mitsunobu stood and made the suggestion. Everyone happily agreed.

Chapter 11: Joining the Student Council

Holding the meal he'd just picked up from the cafeteria, Kudo Mitsunobu pushed open the door to the Student Council room. Everyone was already seated around the table, seemingly waiting for him.

"Koushu, you're here! Hurry and sit down. You're the only one missing."

Saegusa Mayumi quickly waved him over, urging him to take a seat.

"Sorry. A teacher suddenly needed to talk to me, so I'm a little late."

Kudo Mitsunobu pressed his palms together in apology.

"Has Vice President Hattori not arrived yet?" Kudo Mitsunobu asked, looking around in confusion when he didn't see Hattori Hanzo.

"Hattori doesn't usually eat lunch here, so it's just us today."

They chatted and laughed over their meal, with no intention of discussing anything serious while they ate.

Since most of them were girls, though, the meal took quite a while. By the time everyone had finished, more than half of the lunch break had passed.

"Now that we've finished eating, let's get down to business."

With the meal over, Saegusa Mayumi let her bright smile fade and spoke in the tone of someone opening formal negotiations.

Kudo Mitsunobu and Shiba Miyuki both nodded. As for Shiba Tatsuya, he didn't think this had anything to do with him, so he made no response.

"At this school, students are expected to be self-governing, so the Student Council has a great deal of authority."
