"It's nothing!"
Kudo Mitsunobu shook his head.
"Since Tatsuya-kun has already uncovered some information himself, there is no harm in telling him."
"Besides, this was never a secret that required a strict gag order to begin with."
Of everyone present, only Nakajo Azusa seemed completely bewildered; after all, Ichihara Suzune came from a former Numbered family, Watanabe Mari from a Hundred family, and the rest were direct descendants of the Ten Master Clans.
Shiba Tatsuya picked out information that most magicians were already aware of, leaving no room for anyone to question how an ordinary student could possibly know so much.
"Not bad, Tatsuya-kun. Your analysis aligns quite closely with my own."
Kudo Mitsunobu affirmed Shiba Tatsuya's assessment before continuing.
"Since you have now become one of the few who know the truth, I must ask you to keep a close watch on your surroundings, Tatsuya-kun. It would be a great help if you could discover anything."
"Understood. I will keep an eye out."
Shiba Tatsuya accepted the request immediately; in fact, this seemed to be his primary objective—to obtain legitimate investigative authority from the higher-ups.
He had no personal interest in such matters, but the emergence of Blanche now threatened the peaceful school life of his younger sister.
Even without this authorization, he had intended to investigate privately, but if deaths or injuries occurred during the process, it would be troublesome to clean up the traces perfectly without exposing his own identity.
However, with the authorization of these two members of the Ten Master Clans, while his actions might be subject to certain restrictions, he could leave the final cleanup entirely to Kudo Mitsunobu and Saegusa Mayumi.
"Is it really alright to leave it to them?"
"After all, they are different from us."
Saegusa Mayumi still felt some disapproval regarding Kudo Mitsunobu granting investigative authority to Shiba Tatsuya.
While their families enjoyed supreme power in the Japanese magic community, they also lived under the protection of those families; thus, they were duty-bound to step forward, and they had long been mentally prepared to do so without complaint.
After all, the law of society was such that the more power you held, the more responsibility you had to shoulder.
Yet, in Saegusa Mayumi's eyes, the Shiba siblings were merely ordinary students without a family backing, and there was no need for them to take such risks.
This was different from serving on the Disciplinary Committee to manage students; Blanche was filled with vicious terrorists—people who would kill without a second thought.
"Mayumi, you shouldn't underestimate the two of them."
By now, the others in the Student Council room had left for their classrooms to prepare for lessons. With only the two of them remaining, he naturally used the new form of address that Saegusa Mayumi had requested.
When Saegusa Mayumi first heard Kudo Mitsunobu use her new name, a shy blush bloomed across her face.
"No, this has nothing to do with whether they have the ability or not."
"I'm saying they have no need to shoulder such risks; they have no such obligation."
Saegusa Mayumi huffed petulantly.
"No, perhaps they do have a necessity to shoulder this responsibility!"
A mysterious smile flickered across the corner of Kudo Mitsunobu's mouth.
"How could that be!"
"How could—!"
Saegusa Mayumi repeated the words in a clearly joking tone, but then she considered a possibility she had never thought of before.
Her small, cherry-like lips parted wide; saying she could fit a goose egg might be an exaggeration, but fitting a chicken egg inside would likely be no problem at all.
"Perhaps! This is merely a conjecture of mine, after all."
Kudo Mitsunobu chose not to give Saegusa Mayumi the answer directly, knowing that such an ambiguous response would surely pique her interest.
In the original work, Saegusa Mayumi and Jumonji Katsuto had indeed harbored doubts about Shiba Tatsuya's true identity on multiple occasions.
It was only because Saegusa Mayumi held such high favor for Shiba Tatsuya that she had kept those secrets for him.
@Six-Fingered Zither Demon Shang Lianqing @Primordial Sun @Cang Xue @Qiaonijiang @Xiaoyao's Whispers @Soul-Tied Thread @Radiobob @Dream God, thank you all for your generous tips, especially since I received my first "Salted Fish Stab" yesterday. I am deeply grateful.
I should clarify that I used to calculate my thank-yous based on my own posting time, such as from 12:00 PM today to 12:00 PM tomorrow.
However, that calculation is too cumbersome, so starting yesterday, I will follow the time listed on the Ciweimao platform. Of course, everyone will be thanked.
If I missed any big shots, you will certainly be in tomorrow's thank-you letter, so please do not worry.
Although I have said it many times, I am still incredibly grateful to those who send me recommendation tickets and monthly tickets.
To me, the fact that you can come to read my work and click "follow" is already giving me face.
Still asking for tickets and follows.
Chapter 24: The Cloven Hoof Has Already Revealed Itself
Once her curiosity was piqued, Saegusa Mayumi would certainly use the influence of the Saegusa Family to investigate.
Although she might not want to admit it, the things the Saegusa Family could uncover would likely be deeper than what their Kudo Family could find.
After all, the families developed in different directions, and the Saegusa Family and Yotsuba Family held more influence over the military than their Kudo Family did.
Saegusa Mayumi's chest rose and fell slightly, the alluring curves of her figure shifting in a captivating manner.
She cast an unsatisfied glance at Kudo Mitsunobu but said nothing more, despite the fact that they hadn't been acquainted for very long.
Saegusa Mayumi considered herself to have a decent grasp of Kudo Mitsunobu's personality, understanding that even if she were to forcefully press him for answers right now, she would certainly return empty-handed.
In the end, she would have no choice but to investigate on her own.
Kudo Mitsunobu shrugged, feeling quite curious about how Saegusa Mayumi would react once she had finished her investigation.
At the same time, he wanted to see if they might be able to exchange information when the time came.
"Mayumi, we should be going."
"If we don't leave now, we'll be late for afternoon classes."
"Hmph!" Saegusa Mayumi pouted like a child, clearly having no intention of paying Kudo Mitsunobu any mind.
After all, she was still a young girl; even if she understood his personality, she would still throw a tantrum when the mood struck her.
