The connection method used by the Official Division is a special technique. Its greatest advantage, aside from allowing many people to watch simultaneously, is that the perspective is always a third-person view centered on the player.
This is why they could see Bi Gan hiding under the table behind Zhang Anzai.
Coupled with the clues Zhang Anzai had sensed through his own intuition, this prompted his immediate reaction.
As for Zhang Anzai, the smell of blood he had caught earlier—if it wasn't that this guy had specifically opened a cabinet and smeared some blood on the door—was likely just some sort of blood pack or the like.
None of that mattered; the issue was that as Zhang Anzai turned and swung his Meat-Sawing Blade, he saw Bi Gan quickly retreat beneath the table.
"Crack!" The blade swiftly hacked through half of a table leg, causing the entire table to topple over.
Zhang Anzai quickly retracted his blade, preventing the table from pinning it down, but once the table fell, it allowed Bi Gan to scramble away quickly from the other side.
"Hahaha..." Perhaps because Zhang Anzai had the Official Division assisting him from the sidelines yet was still always a step behind, Bi Gan couldn't help but let out a brazen laugh.
The disparity between the two sides was slightly lopsided, so even though he could only run and failed to seize the opportunity for a sneak attack, he still felt this was a great chance to mock the administrators.
The members of the Official Division didn't feel much; they were all veterans who had seen great storms and possessed excellent composure, but Zhang Anzai had no intention of letting this opportunity slip.
For one, influenced by the Wolf-Head Mask, his emotions were indeed highly unstable; for another, precisely because his emotions were becoming volatile, Zhang Anzai realized his state was such that he truly couldn't drag this out any longer.
Especially since he held a special identity, it was best not to remove the mask within the instance; there was no such thing as continuing the pursuit after taking the mask off.
Thus, when Bi Gan pushed open a cabinet in the room to reveal a hidden door and prepared to run into the interior of the Exhibition Area, Zhang Anzai decisively followed.
The Official Division members spoke up quickly: "A secret passage means he has likely modified this instance heavily. Remind the player to be careful! There are likely traps ahead!"
Zhang Anzai heard the prompt in his ear, yet his pace remained extremely resolute.
His physically enhanced constitution allowed him to reach Bi Gan's back quickly, but the next moment, they rushed out of the narrow secret passage and into another area of the Exhibition Area.
This was a Republic-Era Mansion with Western-style decor, featuring several tall pillars, a few clustered sofas, antique low cabinets, curtained windows, and exquisite Western-style lamps.
Zhang Anzai looked at Bi Gan, who was within arm's reach, and decisively lunged forward, holding the blade in one hand while extending his right hand and even opening his mouth wide.
Bi Gan clearly had anticipated his actions. The reason he had been running around to stall for time was simply to let the mask's influence on Zhang Anzai deepen, weakening the calm composure and analytical ability that far exceeded that of an ordinary novice player.
However, once it reached this point, Zhang Anzai, briefly dominated by savage bestial instincts, was indeed terrifying despite his flaws.
As he rushed into this Republic-Era scene without looking, he immediately threw the Pointed Knife in his hand.
"Snap!" A connection point somewhere in the room was severed by the knife.
"Clatter..." A chaotic sound came from above.
"Dodge to the left, hide behind the sofa!"
Although Zhang Anzai had successfully caught Bi Gan and was about to tackle him to the ground, he had no choice but to give him a hard shove and then dodge to the side.
As Zhang Anzai rolled behind the sofa, "Crack!" The Western-style Crystal Chandelier from above smashed into the ground, the glass structure shattering instantly. What Bi Gan had severed with his thrown knife was the chandelier's support rod.
Had Zhang Anzai not dodged in time, he would likely have been impaled through the chest by the chandelier.
Of course, the situation was urgent, and there was no time for lingering fear. Although Zhang Anzai's shove hadn't successfully crippled Bi Gan, it had successfully knocked him to the ground.
Therefore, he decisively vaulted over the sofa and swung his blade at Bi Gan: "World Breaker!"
He was currently lying next to a low table; when he had been pushed over, he seemed to have hit the edge of the tabletop, and his entire back was throbbing with pain.
The damage from this blow seemed to exceed his expectations. Upon seeing Zhang Anzai pounce toward him, he finally stopped running and instead, with a blue face, raised his machete, using the flat of the blade like a Bone-Chopping Knife to block upward.
"Clang!" The blade in Zhang Anzai's hand, under the flick-of-a-finger enhancement from an unknown existence in the shadows, slammed heavily against the machete, causing a large section of the serrated edge to instantly bend and warp.
However, he had jumped and slashed downward while using World Breaker, and the two-handed serrated blade was indeed heavy; Bi Gan, without any physical enhancement, could not parry it at all.
Blood stained a large portion of his clothes. Zhang Anzai's strike pinned the machete against Bi Gan's chest, while the protruding part of the blade embedded itself deeply into Bi Gan's shoulder.
Large swaths of bright red blood seemed to stain his vision, and the pair of dim yellow eyeballs on Zhang Anzai's Wolf-Head Mask instantly turned scarlet.
Saliva flowed involuntarily from his mouth, stretching between his reddened, bared fangs.
Low growls emanated from what should have been a human throat, his wide-open mouth ready to bite down at any moment.
"Hum..." A strange roaring sound reached Zhang Anzai's ears. He didn't hear it clearly, and it was difficult for him to think about what that sound was.
Until the sound grew louder and louder, and the sources of the sound became more numerous.
"[Si..."
"Quick... wake him..."
"Make him take off the mask!"
Zhang Anzai shook his Wolf-Head Mask, which was nearly becoming one with his head, like a beast, and looked down at Bi Gan before him.
The scarlet color faded from his eyeballs, and only then did he see the scene before him clearly.
Bi Gan was indeed pinned beneath him, and his shoulder was indeed nearly severed.
Yet, his face clearly wore a distinct smile, and he had already pulled out one hand from somewhere, drawing a long Boning Knife from his leather apron, and was preparing to plunge it into his own head from the side.
"Roar!" Zhang Anzai decisively turned his wolf head and bit down on his hand.
A nauseating, salty, and fishy taste filled his mouth and nose. Zhang Anzai, however, only bit down hard twice before shaking his head violently.
"Thud!" Bi Gan's mangled, bloody hand slammed onto the floor nearby, and the Boning Knife was sent flying away.
The last shred of Zhang Anzai's reason allowed him to feel wave after wave of lingering fear; it turned out that the guy in front of him had been waiting for this very moment all along.
"That was close, he almost succeeded!"
"To be this heavily injured and still not go down—it really is that skill, the unique boss talent of the Ten Evils, [Monster Essence], which allows for a brief health lock when critically wounded."
That's right, the boss disguise possessed by the Ten Evils granted them more than just the authority to reside in a dungeon long-term; it also provided special abilities exclusive to bosses. Even if Bi Gan was still just a newcomer to the organization.
This wasn't even the first time he had used it.
