Tsunade thought Hyuga Shin must have read something somewhere and decided he understood the Sharingan. She couldn't let him mess around with it.

Hyuga Shin was annoyed. "You're calling me ignorant? You're the one who's clearly ignorant!"

"Big Sister Tsunade, I believe Shin." Mikoto shook her head at Tsunade, then looked at Hyuga Shin with determination.

Hyuga Shin immediately puffed up with pride and gave Tsunade a smug look.

"See? Mikoto believes me."

"Damn it, that smug face makes me want to punch you right in the nose," Tsunade said through gritted teeth.

"Just don't hurt Mikoto," Tsunade reminded him at last.

"Don't worry! How could I ever bear to hurt Mikoto?" Hyuga Shin replied, sounding a little guilty.

He really was going to make Mikoto suffer a little afterward. He hoped she wouldn't hit him for it! Mikoto was so gentle. She probably wouldn't, right?

Hyuga Shin took out a kunai and placed it in Mikoto's hand.

Though puzzled, Mikoto reached out and took it.

"Mikoto, the way to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan is..."

With a shunk, Hyuga Shin grabbed the kunai in Mikoto's hand and drove it into his own chest.

Mikoto stared at Hyuga Shin, her face filled with shock and disbelief.

"Shin, I... I..." Tears of pain welled in Mikoto's eyes. Her Sharingan activated instinctively, and the three tomoe spun rapidly.

Looking at the blood on her hands and Hyuga Shin lying in her arms, feeling his body grow colder by the moment, Mikoto completely broke down.

"Shin, I don't want you to die!" Mikoto cried out.

The three tomoe in her Sharingan merged, and a pair of cherry-blossom-shaped Mangekyō Sharingan appeared in her eyes.

But Mikoto didn't notice. She only held Hyuga Shin in her arms, her face twisted with pain.

"Shin, you're just joking with me, right? I don't want anything to happen to you. I won't awaken the Mangekyō anymore. Please come back to life." Mikoto's face was filled with anguish.

Looking at the kunai in her hand, Mikoto didn't hesitate to thrust it toward her own chest.

Just as it was about to strike, a large hand caught hers.

Mikoto looked down at Hyuga Shin in her arms in startled delight, tears of joy streaming down her face.

"Mikoto! The illusion is over." Lying in her arms, Hyuga Shin smiled as he spoke.

As soon as Hyuga Shin finished speaking, the space around them shattered and the scene changed completely.

Mikoto looked at Hyuga Shin standing before her, completely unharmed, and threw herself into his arms.

"Shin, tell me this isn't a dream." Mikoto clung to him, looking up at him with hopeful eyes.

The illusion had felt so real that she could no longer tell the difference. She could only pray that everything that had just happened was an illusion.

"Of course this isn't a dream. That was the dream—a nightmare. Now you've woken up, and a beautiful tomorrow is waiting for you." Hyuga Shin held Mikoto tight and spoke with aching tenderness.

He hadn't wanted Mikoto to go through any of that, either. But it was the only way he could think of.

Mikoto was different from the other Uchiha. She was gentle and kind, the complete opposite of the rest of the Uchiha Clan. That made awakening the Mangekyō even harder for her.

Hyuga Shin had no choice but to use an illusion on Mikoto, making her experience something painful within it so the shock would awaken the Mangekyō.

"Mikoto, what's wrong? Shouldn't you be happier now that you've awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan?" Kushina came over and looked at Mikoto in confusion.

To her and Tsunade, it had looked as though Mikoto had suddenly awakened the Mangekyō the moment Shin walked up to her. Then she'd started crying and thrown herself into his arms.

The two of them still couldn't make sense of it!

"You really helped Mikoto awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan?" Tsunade couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"Shin, you absolutely can't let anyone find out about this. Otherwise, it won't just be the Uchiha Clan—you'll have other people coming after you, too." Tsunade's expression turned serious.

If word got out that Hyuga Shin could awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, the Uchiha Clan would definitely send people to kidnap him.

And the Konoha High Command, who didn't want the Uchiha Clan to possess the Mangekyō, would send people to assassinate him or lock him up.

In short, if this got out, it would bring Hyuga Shin nothing but trouble and no benefit at all.

"I promise. Nothing like that will ever happen again." Hyuga Shin patted his chest as he swore.

"Tsk, the way you two are so lovey-dovey makes me jealous." A flicker of barely noticeable envy passed through Tsunade's eyes.

Kushina puffed out her cheeks. Though she'd already made peace with sharing a husband with Mikoto, she still couldn't help feeling jealous.

Only then did Mikoto calm down. Embarrassed, she buried her face in Hyuga Shin's chest.

What Mikoto had experienced in the illusion had affected her deeply. Now she clung to Hyuga Shin's hand and refused to let go, afraid that he would disappear the moment she released it.

Chapter 52: Eternal Mangekyō, Abnormal Eye Techniques

"Mikoto, this is for you!" Hyuga Shin took out a vial of emerald-green liquid and handed it to Mikoto.

"What powerful life energy! What is this?" Tsunade came closer. She could feel the potent life force through the bottle.

"Could I study it?"
