Background and Territory
The Ancient Clan has endured since ancient times and is the dominant power in the Eastern Region. Many local forces are considered its vassals, though outsiders know little about its secluded home in the Ancient Realm. Its inherited cultivation talent gives its members an advantage over ordinary cultivators 147.
Ancient Saint City serves as the gateway to the clan. Its barrier retains a trace of Dou Di power and can delay a Dou Saint attack long enough for the clan to mobilize. Flight is prohibited within a thousand zhang of the city 148.
Bloodline and Ceremony
- The clan holds a major ceremony once every twenty years. Young disciples qualify through bloodline grade and strength, then receive clan marks according to their results 145 155.
- Clan marks can release a surge of bloodline power in a crisis. The marks shown at the ceremony include gold, purple-gold, and seven-colored marks 155 156.
- Ling Quan and Lin Xiu receive Golden Clan Marks for sixth-grade bloodlines; Gu Zhen receives a purple-gold mark for a seventh-grade bloodline, as does Gu Yao for an eighth-grade bloodline 155 156.
- Xun'er reveals a Divine Grade bloodline, the clan's first in a thousand years. Elder Tongxuan uses the Seven-Colored Heavenly Emperor Pen to give her a seven-colored clan mark 156.
Organization and Members
- Gu Yuan — patriarch of the Ancient Clan and Xun'er's father 157.
- Elder Council — deliberates on clan matters, including Heavenly Tomb entry quotas and whether Xun'er may leave the Ancient Realm 156 168.
- Black Annihilation Army — includes commanders Ling Quan, Lin Xiu, Gu Zhen, Gu Qingyang, and Gu Yao 151 154 155 226.
- Three Immortals — senior clan powerhouses who respond when the Ancient Realm comes under attack 225 228.
Relations with the Xiao Tribe
Xun'er's attachment to Xiao Ze brings him both support and hostility within the Ancient Clan. Some members resent his closeness to her, while Gu Yuan acknowledges their relationship and warns Xiao Ze about opposition from the elders 148 157.
The clan had occupied the declined Xiao Tribe's Heavenly Tomb entry quota. Elder Gu Shan attempts to retain its two places, but Xiao Ze and Xun'er challenge him; Elder Tongxuan agrees to restore the quota 155 156 157.
Despite that dispute, the clans cooperate against the Hun Clan. Xun'er and Elder Gu Nanhai aid Xiao Ze during the struggle over the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame. Later, Gu Yuan hosts talks on joint resistance after the Hun Clan's attacks on other ancient clans 205 225.
Major Events
- Heavenly Tomb expedition: Ancient Clan disciples enter alongside Xiao Ze and Xun'er. When the three-year period ends, Elder Tongxuan reports that the Spirit Clan's realm has vanished; the Elder Council keeps Xun'er in the Ancient Realm while the incident is investigated 158 168.
- Hun Clan assault: Hun Tiandi attacks the Ancient Realm as a diversion while Elder Guyang betrays the clan and steals its Tou She Ancient God Jade. Xiao Ze captures Guyang and recovers the jade, but the attack exposes a breach in the clan's defenses 229 230.
- Alliance against the Hun Clan: Gu Yuan convenes the Flame and Thunder Clan leaders to coordinate resistance. The Ancient Clan later joins the allied forces that march to the Black-Corner Region against Hun Tiandi's army 225 227 234.
