Background / History

The Uchiha are one of Konoha's founding clans and one of its major ocular-jutsu families. Their long-standing influence is tied to the Sharingan, the Police Force, and their belief that the clan should hold greater standing within the village. 2 14 206

Following the Nine-Tails Incident, suspicion fell on the clan because the beast had been controlled through Sharingan power. Although the investigation found no village resident responsible, the Uchiha's reputation deteriorated and they faced comprehensive scrutiny. Danzō used the crisis to push for the relocation of both the clan district and the Police Force. 1

Clan head Uchiha Fugaku chose compromise rather than immediate confrontation. The entire clan eventually relocated to newly built grounds on Konoha's outskirts; the former Police Force headquarters was demolished, while each household received substantial compensation. The distance from the village center nevertheless became a source of resentment and a symbol of unequal treatment. 2 141

By the time of Akashi's emergency clan meeting, the Uchiha were politically divided: roughly half supported rebellion, one quarter favored reconciliation, and one quarter remained undecided. Akashi revealed that his apparent cooperation with Konoha's leadership had been undercover work for the clan, then won approval for a campaign against Kumogakure rather than a direct rebellion against Konoha. 211 212

The clan's performance in the ensuing war transformed its position. Uchiha forces conducted surprise raids, cut enemy supply lines, and fielded major combatants such as Akashi and Shisui. After Konoha's victory, the Uchiha were widely acknowledged as Konoha's strongest clan. 243 252 254 267

Postwar prestige also intensified the clan's internal problems. Some members used the Uchiha name to bully weaker villagers, worsening other clans' fear and rejection of them. Akashi identified reform as necessary, while the Police Force later ceased its duties in response to the escalating conflict with Konoha's leadership. 261 273
