You Who Fell From the Sky
"How much longer until the gate opens?" Yun Jingheng summoned the Moonlight Sword again, the light of its five Soul Ring flickering.
Chen Weitao squatted beside the door, his hands pressed to the ground, and silvery light seeped into the ground from his palms.
His lips were moving incessantly, as if he were reciting something in a very low voice, so low that Yun Jingheng couldn't hear him.
But he could feel the ground shaking more intensely. The door was already mostly complete, with only one last crack remaining before it could close.
Thirty seconds.
The white-haired God Servant stopped less than fifty paces away from them, his golden eyes fixed on Yun Jingheng, on the door that was still taking shape, and on Chen Weitao, who was squatting beside the door.
His lips moved slightly. "Silver Moon Divine Light Shield."
His voice was very soft, almost as if he were talking to himself, "That was for Ming Chong. When he died, I thought it was broken. I never expected he would leave it to you."
Chen Weitao's fingers paused for a moment.
The white-haired God Servant watched Chen Weitao's retreating figure, the even light in his golden eyes beginning to ripple, as if something was churning beneath that golden ocean.
"Ming Chong is the most intelligent fragment I've ever met; he has complete memories, complete emotions, and a complete personality."
"He was almost a real person. I taught him cultivation, knowledge, and everything about the Moon Domain. I raised him like a child."
His voice finally showed a slight fluctuation, not anger, not sadness, but a more complex vibration, as if all emotions had been suppressed to the lowest frequency.
"But he betrayed me. He stole the blueprints for the Death God Tower, told you about my plans, and even stole my Silver Moon Divine Light Shield. You escaped from the Moon Domain and fled to the Star Luo Empire. He thought he could stop me."
His voice suddenly rose a little.
"He can't stop me, and neither can you. Ten thousand years have passed. I'm not waiting for Ming Chong, nor for you escaped fragments, nor for those pseudo-inheritors who came and went."
His gaze fell on Yun Jingheng, and the light in his golden eyes began to burn. "You've been waiting for me."
"You shouldn't listen to him. He lied to you. The night he escaped from the Moon Domain, he was no longer the same Chen Weitao."
"He changed. He became selfish, cowardly, and only wanted to eke out a living. He didn't want to become a god, didn't want to wield power, didn't want to look down on all living beings; he just wanted to be human."
"What's so good about being human? We get old, we get sick, we die, we feel pain, we cry, we are afraid."
His voice suddenly rose, and his golden eyes shone even brighter. "Isn't becoming a god good? You can save everyone, you can restore this city to its original state, you can bring those people back to life, you can prevent the Moon Domain from cracking again, you can close the rift forever, as long as you become the Yue Shen."
Chen Weitao raised his hands from the ground.
The door finally took full shape. It was silvery-white, translucent, with slightly undulating edges, and hung above the open space. On the other side of the door was pitch black, and nothing could be seen, but one could feel something surging in the darkness.
"Walk!"
Chen Weitao's voice was hoarse. He sprang up from the ground, grabbed Yun Jingheng's arm, and pushed him toward the door.
Yun Jingheng stumbled from the push, but he steadied himself and looked at the "stranger" blocking his way.
"I'll stop him, you go quickly."
Chen Weitao repeated himself, his voice even softer than before.
"But..."
"There are no 'buts'!"
Chen Weitao turned around and shoved his hands hard into his chest.
Yun Jingheng instinctively tried to grab him, but he didn't. Instead, he grabbed the palm-shaped Soul Tool that Chen Weitao handed him.
He was pushed backward, and in that moment of weightlessness, he reached out with his other hand, trying to grab something—the hand that had pushed against his chest.
Fingers pierced through the air, through the silvery-white mist overflowing from the door, grasping only emptiness.
The door closed in front of him.
Yun Jingheng tumbled in the light, unable to distinguish up from down, direction from direction, or whether he was flying forward or falling backward.
I want to ask, how do I leave Dragon Valley?!
Yun Jingheng felt himself falling.
The wind whistled in his ears, so loud that he couldn't hear anything.
His body spun rapidly in the darkness, head down then overturned, face down then overturned, spinning countless times for an unknown duration.
I don't know how much time passed.
It could be a minute, an hour, or a day.
It could also just be a very long dream he had while his consciousness was hazy.
Then he saw the light.
It's a softer, warmer light, like the first rays of sunlight filtering through the curtains in the morning.
The light shone from the deepest part of the darkness; it was small and far away, like a star that had been burning alone in the night sky for a long time.
The light grew closer, larger, and brighter.
Yun Jingheng felt the temperature; it was a more comfortable temperature, more like being enveloped in warm water.
His body stopped falling; it didn't stop, but was supported by something.
His back touched something, not the ground, but something like a thick layer of air cushioning him.
The feeling lasted for a few seconds, then he passed through the cushion and crashed into something.
The sounds of branches breaking, leaves rubbing together, and mud and fallen leaves hitting the ground.
His body tumbled several times upon impact, bending a patch of bushes before finally coming to a stop against a thick tree trunk.
The moment his back slammed against the tree trunk, his lungs were compressed, causing him to let out a muffled groan.
Something welled up in my mouth—warm, salty, fishy blood.
He gritted his teeth and swallowed the blood back.
Yun Jingheng lay on his back amidst the wreckage of the bushes, his eyes open as he looked up at the sky.
What color is that? A dull grayish-brown?
How eerie, there are colorful clouds in the sky...
Um?!
He sat up abruptly and looked around.
We've arrived...? How do I get out?
Gu Yuena closed her eyes, and the Dragon God Heart floated in front of her, merging with her.
The warmth of the Dragon God Heart seeped into my body through the air.
She could feel the immense energy contained within the Dragon God Heart. That energy resonated strongly with the Silver Dragon King Bloodline within her, like two magnets that had been separated for a long time finally coming together, attracting, devouring, and merging with each other.
But that's not what she wants now. What she wants now is not the Dragon God Heart, not the inheritance, not a power that can make her stand at the top of the world.
She wanted to find Yun Jingheng.
But where can we find it?
Gu Yuena opened her eyes. Her purple eyes appeared exceptionally deep in the dim light of Dragon Valley, like two bottomless wells with still water, so still that it was impossible to tell whether the water was alive or stagnant.
She has obtained the Dragon God Heart.
But what happens after you obtain the Dragon God Heart?
She didn't know where Yun Jingheng was, or whether he was dead or alive.
She didn't even know if he was still alive.
Yun Ming searched the entire Star Luo Continent, looking for every corner except Dragon Valley, but found no trace of Yun Jingheng.
There was no bloodstain, no fragments of clothing, no remnants of Soul Power, no evidence of his existence. He simply vanished from the ruins of the Star Luo City, like a drop of water falling into the sea, like a leaf blown into a canyon by the wind.
Gu Yuena stood up from the cave floor, her legs feeling a little weak; she had been in Dragon Valley for a long time.
Dragon Valley has no distinction between day and night; the sky is always a dark, grayish-brown, and the clouds are always a strange mix of colors. Time loses its meaning here.
She didn't know how long she had been there; it could have been three days, five days, or even longer.
All she knew was that she had to leave as soon as possible, return to Star Luo City, and find Yun Jingheng's whereabouts.
She turned around and was startled.
Why are you still here?
"How dare you speak to your father like that? I've protected you for so long and you don't even thank me?"
Gu Yuena didn't intend to say anything more; she wanted to leave immediately.
"Etc."
"What else do you want to say? Isn't that what needs to be said...?"
"The successor of the Yue Shen has arrived."
Gu Yuena stopped abruptly.
She turned around and looked at the silhouette of an old man leaning against the cave wall, arms crossed, with a nonchalant expression.
The Old Dragon God —her father—was, at least in terms of bloodline, the person in the world closest to her.
Her long, colorful hair cascaded down her shoulders, and she had nine-colored eyes. Her face looked no more than middle-aged, but the vicissitudes in her eyes proved that she had lived a much longer life than she had imagined.
"What did you say?" Gu Yuena's voice was a little tense.
The phantom of the Old Dragon God straightened up from the stone wall, stretched his shoulders, and his joints made a cracking sound.
"The successor of the Yue Shen has arrived, you heard me right."
He walked towards the cave exit, took two steps, stopped, and turned to look at Gu Yuena.
Gu Yuena's fingers tightened suddenly. "He's in Dragon Valley?"
"Yes, I just arrived."
The Old Dragon God spoke as if he were saying the weather was nice today.
"It fell from the sky, broke several trees, and is probably lying in a thicket now, lost in thought."
"He suffered a minor back injury and coughed up blood, but it's nothing serious. His Soul Power was greatly depleted, and his origin was somewhat impacted, but he should recover after a few days of rest."
Where is he?
The Old Dragon God gave the impatient Gu Yuena a strange look, and after a moment of silence, said, "There's definitely truth to the saying 'a daughter is gone once she grows up,' even though I didn't raise you..."
"Go and wait at the place where the Yue Shen fell. He will come."
