Background / History

Noah is introduced as the true founder of Kaiba Corporation in the Underworld, rather than Gozaburo Kaiba. From Kaiba Corporation’s fortified weapon factory, he oversees the rebel base’s operations and security, with even senior personnel such as Keith reporting directly to him. Despite appearing to be around ten years old, he carries himself with unusual elegance, authority, and political awareness. 15 16

He established the modernized Kaiba Corporation to oppose the Necromancer King and protect those around him. The corporation develops weapons, Machine-type cards, Duel Disks, and other technology by imitating the tools and abilities of supernatural beings. Noah describes the mass-produced Duel Disk as his proudest invention: it stores energy, materializes card power, and enables ordinary people to initiate Shadow Games against stronger enemies. 18 20 30

Noah conceals an Orichalcos necklace beneath his clothing. Its emerald glow changes his eye color and supports his ability to maintain the city and wield supernatural power. He later admits that he is dangerous, and his repeated use of Shadow Games leaves him visibly exhausted. 27 53 54

During Gozaburo Kaiba’s assault on the Magical Research Institute, Gozaburo calls Noah a “fake born from Orichalcos.” Noah’s depleted energy leaves him unable to properly connect with his Deck, forcing Yu Ming to intervene in their duel. 163 165

Later, Noah adopts the name Shinato and reveals that Doma manipulated events surrounding the Orichalcos incident. Believing he must return to the living world to avenge himself against Doma, he clashes with Yu Ming, who challenges him to a duel on behalf of the Underworld’s abandoned souls. 170 171

Appearance

Noah resembles a small, refined boy, but his appearance is repeatedly contrasted with the maturity and pressure he projects as a leader.

  • Emerald-green hair and blue eyes; his eyes turn green when using Orichalcos power. 16 53
  • Typically wears white clothing, including a form-fitting white shirt. 15 170
  • Wears a steel wristband and a concealed Orichalcos necklace. 15 53
  • Often accompanied by the crow spirit Yata-Garasu. 15 17

Personality

Noah is calm, articulate, and highly strategic. He tests Yu Ming through a duel rather than accepting Keith’s report at face value, and initially uses Yata-Garasu to assess Yu Ming’s emotions. When confronted, however, he apologizes and agrees to a more direct form of communication. 16 20

As New Domino City’s leader, Noah attempts to appear composed and flawless before his followers. He hides the fatigue caused by Shadow Games because he believes a leader cannot afford to show vulnerability. His concern for civilians and children is genuine, and he consistently frames his work as a mission to protect others. 27 54 407

His composure can fracture under personal pressure. The revelation of Doma’s involvement drives him toward revenge, causing him to reject the image of a “savior” and pursue a plan Yu Ming considers harmful to the wider Underworld. 170
