Inside the Hokage Office Building, the door was silently pushed open.
Danzō entered with his cane, his expression blank as he stopped before Minato Namikaze.
"Hokage, you summoned me." His voice was calm, betraying neither joy nor anger.
Minato looked up and offered a friendly smile. "Senior Danzō, please, have a seat."
Other than the Hokage's chair, there had originally been no other seats in the office. But with Danzō's visit today, one had been specially prepared in advance.
Danzō calmly sat down without another word, though his gaze remained fixed on Minato. According to the intelligence he had received, today's meeting was far from simple.
Moreover, the adjustments within the village these past days suggested that something unpleasant was about to happen.
Minato smiled. "Senior Danzō, I invited you here today to discuss reforming the Anbu. What are your thoughts?"
Danzō's face remained expressionless. "The Anbu are the Hokage's personal force. How they are reformed is naturally for the Hokage to decide. Why ask this old man?"
Unable to discern Danzō's true thoughts, Minato had no desire to beat around the bush. He said directly, "Naturally, I have the final say over the Anbu. But I wonder what Root has to say about it. For all these years, Root has been an organization within the Anbu, yet the Hokage's orders do not seem particularly effective there."
"Hmm?" Danzō's eyes narrowed slightly. He had expected Minato Namikaze to harbor ill intentions, but he had not expected him to dispense with all pretenses and point the blade directly at him.
But as one of Konoha's elders, he had weathered countless storms over the years. Naturally, he would not lose his composure in a setting like this.
"It is true that Root is an Anbu organization, but I personally founded it. Hokage,
