"They're full, but what about us?" Belaque asked, looking at Uchiha Madara.

"Looks like we'll have to start another fire," Uchiha Madara said with a smile. "Either our fire isn't big enough, or the animals in your world are rather lacking in human sympathy."

"You want their lives. Don't expect them to be sympathetic toward you," Belaque said, stretching lazily.

"Sleep, sleep," Belaque said with a grin. "Get some rest and restore your strength. When we reach the next city, we can stock up on food again."

"Aren't there still a few snakes here? Don't you want to eat something first to tide yourself over?" Uchiha Madara asked.

"I have no interest whatsoever in legless reptiles. If you like them, go eat them yourself. Those things probably aren't even enough to fill a griffin's stomach," Belaque said.

"You're not young anymore, yet you're still such a picky eater," Uchiha Madara said.

As time slowly passed, the little sapling had burned away completely. Once the griffins were full, they flapped their wings and flew back over.

The north wind blew softly. Feeling somewhat cold, Belaque moved closer to the griffin's body.

Uchiha Madara looked at the bright moon in the sky and felt the gradually cooling weather. He wondered whether his hometown had become this cold as well.

He drifted off to sleep with those thoughts, and the next morning, the two of them were awakened by the griffins' cries.

Uchiha Madara looked around. It was already morning. Having gone a full day without food, he found the weather exceptionally cold amid the northern wind.
