Background / History

Itachi joins Uchiha Shisui's Clan Seventh Squad alongside Uchiha Shiraha. He presents himself as gentle and shy, names three-colored dango as his favorite food, and states that he wishes to protect Konoha and the people important to him. Beneath that demeanor, he carries grief from the death of a teammate and is already burdened by concerns beyond his age. 2

During the pursuit of the defected Orochimaru, Itachi accepts the mission while struggling with the competing claims of the village and the Uchiha clan. At Shiraha's instruction, he activates his Sharingan to expose a concealed enemy, then uses a Ninja Cat summon to relay a warning. 8 9 When Orochimaru's group confronts them, Itachi elects to restrain four opponents alone so Shiraha can face Orochimaru; he later receives Orochimaru's severed arm as spoils in recognition of that contribution. 10 12
