Personality

He places great value on comrades and family. He worries about the safety of inexperienced shinobi at the front, intervenes when Kakashi's Chidori training becomes dangerous, and repeatedly acts to protect Kushina, Naruto, and Kakashi. 14 16 110 160
As a leader, Minato is thoughtful rather than blindly loyal. He questions whether Iori's clan reforms would benefit ordinary people, and he refuses to endorse Iori's plan to overthrow the daimyō and nobles—though he also chooses not to oppose it. 127 128 In war, however, he can act without mercy against enemies, even when he respects their conviction. 271

Story Role / Major Arcs
Iwagakure Border War
Minato saves Iori's team from Iwagakure shinobi and identifies himself as commander of the reconnaissance unit. With too few jōnin under his command, he prepares the border force for a difficult defensive battle. 3
He leads Konoha's response to Iwagakure's assault, taking primary responsibility for repelling the enemy's main force. After Iori devastates the opposing formation, Minato extracts him from danger and returns to eliminate the surviving enemy jōnin. 10 11
Team Minato and Iori's Promotion
Minato agrees to teach Iori, Kaori, Kakashi, Obito, and Rin the Body Flicker Technique. He later ends Kakashi's dangerous Chidori sparring session and directs him to reconsider the technique's flaw. 13 14
After Iori's promotion to jōnin, Minato personally delivers his flak jacket and Uchiha promotion scroll. He regards Iori as an unusually gentle Uchiha and potential bridge between the village and the clan. 16
Kannabi Bridge and the Hokage Alliance
Minato leads the Kannabi Bridge operation, successfully destroying Iwagakure's supply line. The victory costs him Obito, whose Sharingan is transplanted into Kakashi. 110 111
He turns to Iori for support in protecting Kakashi's claim to Obito's eye. In return, Minato and Iori formalize an alliance: Minato seeks the Fourth Hokage position, while Iori plans to pursue the Fifth. 111 124
Fourth Hokage
Minato is elected Fourth Hokage with near-unanimous support. In his inaugural address, he promises to protect Konoha and endure its difficulties, while maintaining that he will make his own decisions despite cooperating with Iori. 147
As Hokage, he keeps Danzō's Root in place due to the unstable international situation, but distrusts Danzō's ambitions. He forms a Shadow Guard Unit and teaches Shiranui Genma, Namiashi Raidō, and Tatami Iwashi the Flying Thunder God Technique; the three must use it together. 148
Nine-Tails Attack and Abdication
During Naruto's birth, Minato protects his newborn son from the Masked Man's explosive trap but is forced to leave Kushina briefly. He saves her after the Nine-Tails is released and confronts the Masked Man using the Flying Thunder God. 160
After the Nine-Tails is resealed within Kushina, Minato resigns as Hokage. He accepts responsibility for the disaster to protect Kushina from becoming the sole target of suspicion and entrusts Konoha's future to Iori. 170
