The Filial Daughter
The Revolutionary Army transport ship, which had been hovering above the Vardona Gate Skyscraper, landed smoothly on the rooftop helipad, the plasma flames spewing from its thrusters creating a cloud of hot, humid steam.
Stand behind me.
Carolina Davis's loyal butler directed several family security personnel to protect the young lady of the family, but their only weapon was the standard P-220 electromagnetic pistol from the Confederacy Police Department.
"Put the gun down."
Davis warned his butler and guards, "These soldiers won't fire until we prove we pose no threat. If I were you, I would immediately lay down my weapons and stand aside."
"Did you hear what Miss Carolina said? Do it immediately. We can't possibly be a match for the rebels." The butler's mind raced with various thoughts and considerations, and he immediately agreed with Davis's words.
The Davis Family security personnel, who had instinctively gripped their weapons tightly, immediately dropped their pistols and, along with Carolina Davis, raised their hands to prove they were not carrying any weapons.
On the battlefield, a soldier who is constantly on high alert is very likely to fire at anyone who is pointing a weapon at him, especially in a sudden encounter, because if he hesitates even slightly when pulling the trigger, he may be the one who dies.
When Confederacy troops are carrying out local security operations in insurgent areas, they often accidentally injure innocent civilians, and the Spike Bullet accelerated by electromagnetic force are always fatal on the first shot.
With a hiss as the hydraulic system contracted, a weathered gangway was lowered. The first to rush out of the transport ship were two fully armed Revolutionary Army soldiers, clad in gleaming crimson new alloy armor, raindrops pattering against their matte orange visors.
The pale white patterns on the helmet visor formed a pair of triangular black eyes and a long nose and mouth like a bear. If Davis knew anything about a cute but also quite fierce animal that lived on ancient Earth, she would surely be able to associate it with the creature called the panda.
Their broad left shoulder armor was painted with the letters "WAR" in large white paint, while the other shoulder had "PIG," signifying that they were an elite special forces squad within the Revolutionary Army, and had been awarded the title of "War Pigs."
These well-equipped troops always appear in the most dangerous areas of the battlefield, carrying out the most arduous missions. Often, they are also tasked with decapitation strikes to kill enemy commanders.
Two Revolutionary Army soldiers, even in armor, charged forward with remarkable agility as they disembarked from the transport ship, preparing to fire on any enemy that came into view. They locked onto Davis and a few people around her, stopping and aiming their Gauss Rifle at them.
More Revolutionary Army soldiers followed, filing down the gangway below. Their attire was almost identical to their two comrades, but their weapons varied, including FN heavy sniper rifles, railguns, and flamethrowers. Some soldiers, nearly ten feet (three meters) tall, wore specially made heavy armor, each carrying a heavy Gatling gun, usually mounted only on attack helicopters.
The soldiers passed on either side of Davis and his men, their steps quickening as they disappeared down the stairs they had come from.
"I suggest you find somewhere to take shelter from the rain, miss," one of the soldiers said to Davis. "We'll be leaving here soon and will not harm any innocent people."
The soldier's voice sounded quite young; he might be a college student or even a high school student, or perhaps from a peripheral colony planet whose main industries were agriculture or mining. When the Revolutionary Army arrived, the choice between leaving their monotonous lives to follow them or staying in their homeland to inherit their fathers' businesses was clearly more appealing to these young people.
But even as a relatively young soldier, he had been tempered into the same silent and resilient as those veterans, only venting his anger on the enemy of the Revolutionary Army when necessary.
"Who is the commander?" Davis covered his chest with one hand and looked at the Revolutionary Army soldier who was aiming his gun at him. "I know where Governor Vardona is hiding right now."
"You don't know what you're talking about, Carolina." The butler was taken aback; he had never imagined that his young mistress would help the Revolutionary Army.
The nobles of Vardona have close ties with the rulers of the Terran Confederacy, and they are the ruling class that the Revolutionary Army want to overthrow. It is hard to imagine that Davis, who is of noble birth, would choose to help the Revolutionary Army fight against his own class.
"I know exactly what I'm thinking," Davis said firmly to the butler. "I never make mistakes."
As for Davis herself, her decision was not made out of fear of death or on a whim, but because she had long planned to do so. As an elegant, charming, and well-mannered noblewoman, Davis's unknown beauty concealed a heart yearning for revolution.
If the Revolutionary Army hadn't arrived in Vardona, Davis would have sought an opportunity to leave her homeland and join the Revolutionary Army. She was already in her twenties, a few years older Augustus, but this mature woman yearned for change.
Because the protective shield on the tarmac had failed, the pouring rainwater completely soaked the thin dress that the Davis Family had hired from Pridewater Colony's top tailors to make.
The beautiful dress was soaked through, clinging perfectly to Davis's smooth, creamy skin and breathtaking curves. Her wet, pale blonde hair draped over her long eyelashes, making her look far more alluring than when she danced at the banquet.
Davis was only wearing a few thin layers of fabric, looking frail and vulnerable. Vardona has a pleasant climate year-round, so even in a downpour, it wouldn't be too cold, but being soaked to the bone was quite unpleasant.
"You know?" the young soldier asked her.
The location of Governor Vardona's office has never been a secret, but the governor, who has close personal ties with the Tarsonis and Vardona nobles, usually does not work from the governor's mansion. Since the Sons of Korhal of Arcturus Mengsk began targeting the governors of the Confederacy throughout the Terran Confederacy, Governor Vardona has preferred to hide in a secure, secret underground facility.
The governor of Vardona was always a cautious man, and his hiding place was naturally unknown to outsiders.
"Of course," Davis replied. "He's with my father now."
"I am a member of the Vardona Davis Family," she continued. "I can offer you more assistance."
The soldier on the other end remained silent, but he was clearly communicating with his superior through the communication device inside his helmet. A short while later, a Ghost operative dressed in a tight-fitting combat suit stepped out of the transport plane. It was the same Ghost operative had used mechanical locking weapons to disable anti-aircraft artillery and platform defense equipment.
The Ghost operative was a well-proportioned and powerful male warrior. His perfectly sculpted muscles were clearly visible as he ran in the rain, making it hard to imagine the rigorous training he had undergone to become a superhuman warrior. A single term at the Ghost Academy lasts approximately four years, and graduates must undergo unprecedented courses. Only geniuses like Sarah Kerrigan have the potential to graduate a few years early.
With the aid of the combat suit, the power unleashed by Ghost operative is no less than that of a soldier wearing Power Armor.
The Ghost operative, "Carolina Davis," scanned her with the green prosthetic eye on his ghost mask. "You're not lying, but why are you helping us? I don't understand."
The Ghost operative ' voices sounded very hoarse, as if they came from beneath the water's surface; each Ghost operative possessed a cold and melancholic soul.
"You're a mind reader," Davis said, looking at the Ghost operative. "I've heard rumors about you. In short, I've long admired the Revolutionary Army."
"Is that so? You might be right." This Revolutionary Army Ghost, who had been trained by the Protoss Dark Templar, may have also learned the mysterious way of speaking, which brought them one step closer to becoming riddle masters.
"So what is your purpose?" he continued. "I don't see any benefit this will bring you. Don't you know how many people strive their whole lives for a life of luxury and comfort?"
"Augustus Mengsk is also a nobleman, and the wealth and power of the Khammensk family even surpasses that of the Davis family." Davis used this statement to gain the approval of the Revolutionary Army Ghost Agent.
"I hope you can take me to see your Marshal Augustus Mengsk after that," Davis said. "That's all."
"I did my best," the Ghost operative said, staring at her.
Hundreds and thousands of people wanted to see the Marshal, including local talents and clowns. Of course, the most numerous were socialites and even prostitutes who thought they could win Marshal Augustus's favor. Popes of many religions even claimed that the Revolutionary Army marshal was the incarnation of their gods.
As Augustus's Revolutionary Army grew larger and larger, it became impossible for just anyone to come to Augustus unimpeded. Augustus still longed to hear the people's voices at any time, but his precious time did not allow him to do so.
"Lead the way, miss." The Ghost operative became noticeably more talkative when speaking of Augustus: "You also think Marshal Augustus was a great leader, don't you? He saved me from the Confederacy, redeemed my sinful soul, and from then on, I entrusted my life to him."
"In the name of Augustus, I swear I will keep my promise."
At this moment, Davis could see the carving on the Ghost operative's neck, which was inlaid with a portrait of Augustus Mengsk wearing a military cap.
Many Revolutionary Army soldiers carried photographs of the Revolutionary Army Augustus Mengsk with them, as if a single glance at him would unleash boundless power. This was somewhat unbelievable; generally, they should have been carrying photographs of their fiancées or nude photos of some female celebrity.
According to some secret and subtle rumors that have been blocked by the Ogrub agents, General Horace Warfield carried a photograph of Miss Dorothy Mengsk with him, but it could be mistaken for a photograph of Marshal Augustus in drag that was not destroyed.
"Yes," Davis said, glancing with her dark eyes at her stern-faced head butler. Even though the butler had weathered many storms in the first half of his life, this scene was truly one he had never witnessed before.
"Governor Vardona is currently located beneath the Bennett Trade Building, opposite the Vadona Gate Building. On the third basement level, there is a heavily guarded underground bunker, capable of withstanding multiple Hellfire missiles." She not only revealed the governor's and her father's hiding place but also offered advice to the Revolutionary Army special operations team that was about to attack the area.
"It's virtually impossible to force our way in there unless you destroy it along with everyone inside," she said. "There are Confederacy police and law enforcement forces nearby, and the longer we delay, the more dangerous it becomes."
"You can tell my father I'm in your hands, and he'll open the door for me."
"He loves you very much." Even with the Ghost operative's ruthless composure, Davis's words surprised him. "But if that doesn't work, we have our own plans and methods, though they might be a little rough and inhumane."
"I love him too," Davis said calmly. "Ten years from now, he will be glad I made this choice. If Augustus Mengsk becomes the new ruler of the Terran Confederacy, the Davis Family will also become the kings of Vardona."
"So, we have to take you with us," the agent said. "Corporal Ryan, take her with you."
When it comes to running speed, even athletes can't match soldiers in Power Armor, let alone Davis.
The Revolutionary Army named Ryan knelt on one knee before Davis, resembling a knight about to swear allegiance to his lord. Davis lifted her long skirt to ensure that she wouldn't be exposed when he lifted her up.
As the corporal picked up Davis and started running, about twenty soldiers in alloy armor followed him. Guided by Davis, they walked through the interconnected corridors of the Vadona Gate Building and arrived at the entrance of the Bennett Trade Tower.
The Davis Family's butler was guarded by the remaining Revolutionary Army soldier and ordered to stay put.
This commercial building, belonging to the Tarsonis Bennett Family, was primarily open to those who did business with the Bennett Family, and most of the time only the elite were allowed inside. The Bennett Family was widely praised for their authority and rigorous spirit in the shipbuilding industry, but the family was also known for its ruthlessness and coldness.
The Bennett Family emphasizes the distinction between Old Families and ordinary people, believing that everything they do is for profit. This spirit is also reflected in the Bennett Family's buildings—cold, sharp right-angled lines and soaring, pointed domes, resembling the spear of the world.
A squad of security personnel armed with Gauss Rifle was stationed at the Bennett Trade Tower, but they were almost immediately overwhelmed by the Revolutionary Army's elite special forces. The building was guarded by hundreds of heavily armed security personnel, including Confederate Marine Corps, but they were forced to retreat under the fierce offensive of this elite force.
Every member of the Revolutionary Army's War Pigs porcupine squad is a handpicked brave warrior. Like Resocialized Soldier, they are fearless in the face of sacrifice, yet they also possess the wisdom and battlefield decision-making ability that an outstanding soldier should have.
Davis was well protected; she was personally guarded by the Ghost operative until the Revolutionary Army special forces completely cleared the passage to the underground.
In the covert operation, Vardona did indeed prosper because of Davis's relationship with the Sons of Korhal, receiving substantial technological and financial support from the Terran Empire. In our terms, they were loyal subjects of the Empire.
