At Nawaki's second condition, everyone present turned their eyes toward Danzo. They all knew this condition was deliberately aimed at him, because aside from Root, the Anbu already had the authority to investigate everyone in Konoha.
As expected, Danzo did not immediately agree after hearing Nawaki's condition. Instead, he fell silent, seemingly deep in thought.
He had long anticipated that Nawaki might suspect him, but he had not expected him to raise such an obviously targeted condition now. He was not worried that the other side would truly find anything; he was merely wary that Nawaki might be plotting something.
"What is Lord Danzo hesitating over? Strictly speaking, everyone here should be considered a suspect. Cooperating with the investigation is only proper! Don't tell me you have a guilty conscience?" Nawaki asked, eyeing Danzo critically.
"Nonsense! What do I have to feel guilty about?" Danzo hurriedly retorted with a dark expression, unconsciously averting his gaze. But when he remembered the various precautions he had taken this time, his confidence returned. At last, he said stiffly, "Fine! I accept your condition. Neither Root nor I will obstruct you, no matter who or where you wish to investigate!"
"With Leader Danzo's assurance, I'm relieved." Nawaki nodded without changing expression. "Then please have Leader Danzo withdraw the Root members outside and hand the scene over to the Anbu. We need to begin the investigation immediately, so I hope all unrelated personnel will leave first!"
Hearing Nawaki's dismissal, Danzo sneered. "Then you'd better hurry. Don't forget, you only have three days!"
"Thank you for the reminder." Nawaki nodded unhurriedly. "I'll leave the task of keeping this confidential to Leader Danzo. I trust Root's capabilities are more than sufficient for that!"
"Hmph!" After failing to gain anything from his probing, Danzo said coldly, "Let's go!"
