Jiraiya frowned when he saw Naruto wearing a mask and an enormous black cloak. "Who are you? Why were you hiding off to the side, secretly watching? What are you after?"
Seeing that Jiraiya had not recognized him, Naruto relaxed. "Nothing. I just came here to gather medicinal herbs. I saw you fighting that giant crocodile and didn't want to distract you, so I hid in a tree."
"Medicinal herbs?" Jiraiya asked suspiciously.
Naruto pointed to a white flower on the riverbank nearby. "That one. That flower is the herb I came to pick."
Jiraiya looked at the unremarkable white flower in surprise. "You mean that? You came all this way for that ordinary-looking flower?"
Naruto nodded. "That's right, that flower. It can cure many incurable illnesses and even prolong your life. I think that last part is probably exaggerated, but it really can cure all sorts of otherwise incurable diseases." With that, Naruto walked to the riverbank and picked the little white flower.
Jiraiya studied the little flower curiously, examining it from every angle, but could not find anything special about it. Seeing his curiosity, Naruto said, "I don't think you know much about this stuff. Why not pick one yourself and take it back to a medical ninja you know? Maybe she'll recognize it. There happen to be two here, and I only need one."
After a moment's thought, Jiraiya picked the other flower and told Naruto, "You're right. I don't know much about things like this, or how valuable this flower is, but I think she should know."
Once Jiraiya had picked the flower, Naruto prepared to leave. He did not want to spend too much time with Jiraiya for fear of being recognized. Until he resolved the danger lurking within him, he did not want to
