Naruto entered Yan Xiaoyu's name on the form. After they checked it together, he smiled and said, "Now let's go find the others." With that, he stood and headed out of the classroom. Yan Xiaoyu snapped out of her daze and hurried after him. Once she caught up, she slowed down and followed closely behind him.

Yan Xiaoyu had only worked up the courage to ask Naruto to team up with her because she had no other choice. Only the strong could survive at this academy. Her grades were not particularly good, nor was she very strong. She was also a commoner without a wealthy family and could not afford equipment. Getting a good result in this field trial was all but impossible for her.
Students who performed well in the academy's field trials received rewards or had their tuition waived for the following semester. Her family was poor, and she had only been able to attend Wisdom Academy because the villagers had pooled their money for her. Even then, they had only raised enough for one semester. She would have to cover the next semester's tuition herself, and four purple gold coins per semester was undoubtedly an astronomical sum to Yan Xiaoyu.
