When they saw the monsters summoned by the Dark Elves slaughter every last one of their summoners, Naruto and the others froze in utter bewilderment.
It took them a while to recover. Naruto gave a wry smile. "Looks like those Dark Elves got themselves killed without us having to lift a finger."
Nawaki Senju said helplessly, "But judging by the situation, our trouble has only just begun. These monsters are clearly much harder to deal with than those Dark Elves."
"Look at those dead Dark Elves. Something seems strange about them," Sasuke said in surprise. The hint of astonishment in his voice puzzled everyone who knew him. Sasuke never got surprised over trivial matters; anything that startled him had to be serious.
Naruto and Nawaki Senju hurriedly looked at the dead Dark Elves. As the corpses absorbed the aura emanating from the monsters, they began to change. Their bodies were assimilated by the black gas and slowly merged into revolting clumps of slime. Then new monsters began emerging from the slime, one after another.
Naruto's expression immediately darkened. There had already been more than enough Dark Elves, and now even more monsters were appearing. Those monsters were turning the Dark Elves they killed into monsters as well. Most importantly, the monsters were clearly far harder to deal with than the Dark Elves.
"Those monsters seem to be turning the dead Dark Elves into monsters too," Naruto said. "We have to stop them, or things will get even trickier."
"The Dark Elves' bodies seem to be transforming inside those clouds of gas," Nawaki Senju said. "If we scatter the clouds, we should be able to stop the transformation."
