Background / History

False Paradise and the Inner Demon Path

Liu Feng enters False Paradise with little confidence in his own strength. When presented with the choices of Implantation, Mutation, and Inner Demon, he selects the Inner Demon Path despite being unsettled by the game's presentation. 467

During his first instance, he is separated from Wang Xizhi after their protective oil lamp disappears. Trapped by Black Mist beasts, Liu Feng learns that his ink can materialize objects from textual descriptions and memories. By recalling the scent of talismans that mesmerized the beasts, he creates a convincing imitation and escapes. 471

He later infiltrates the cult's clock-tower ritual site with his uncle. The operation fails when a freed sacrifice kills the uncle, and Liu Feng is captured by Lena and Father Yas. After his Inner Demon changes his condition, Liu Feng retaliates against the cult, kills Father Yas, and causes the ritual to collapse; the Black Mist dissipates and the instance ends. 476 477 479

The aftermath is severe: his Inner Demon mutates beyond False Paradise's normal limits, creating a second personality that can manifest in reality. 479

Black Heaven Secret Treasure Instance

Liu Feng begins the next instance in a martial-arts world as an essentially ordinary person without Inner Qi, a dantian, meridians, or acupoints. He initially plans to avoid danger, gather information, and assemble skills rather than fight martial artists directly. 482 488

After Qiu Shao inadvertently leaves him a Black Heaven Mask, Liu Feng becomes the target of martial artists seeking the Black Heaven Secret Treasure. The mask grants him the Clear Heart Record and summons him to South Mountain on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, where its bearer may become Lust Hall Master. 485 486

Unable to cultivate ordinary inner-world martial arts, Liu Feng adopts the dangerous Tiger Soul Body-Fusion Art. He strengthens himself with tiger-bone medicine, fuses tiger souls, develops sword skills, and fights his way toward Luo Family Manor to reclaim the Black Heaven Mask. 487 488 490 494

At Luo Family Manor, Liu Feng defeats several Golden Cicada Body cultivators, comprehends wind manipulation through Yu Zhiyu's sword intent, and retrieves the mask. He subsequently reaches South Mountain, where Qiu Shao—revealed as Zhao Shaoqiu, Black Heaven Hall's twenty-seventh-generation successor—recognizes him as the Lust Hall Master. 500 501 502

Appearance

Liu Feng's appearance changes dramatically during the Black Heaven Secret Treasure instance as a result of medicinal refinement and repeated tiger-soul fusions.

  • After practicing the Five Tigers Gate-Severing Blade with tiger-bone medicine, he grows noticeably larger, with firmer and more mature features. 487
  • His second soul fusion leaves him severely gaunt and constantly hungry, at times resembling “skin stretched over bones.” 494 497
  • After forging Sword Bone, he develops a sharp, sword-like aura that makes him seem like a newly honed blade. 492
  • He typically carries an ordinary longsword after abandoning frequent reliance on his more murderous blade techniques. 491 492

Personality

Liu Feng is resourceful, opportunistic, and prone to darkly humorous internal commentary. In dangerous situations, he rapidly improvises uses for his Inner Demon, such as turning ink into a torch, talisman, weapon, door, or shield. 471 478

He initially believes that killing does not suit him and would rather be a treasure hunter than a combatant. Circumstances gradually force him into violence, and he becomes increasingly aware that uncontrolled killing and tiger-soul power feed his murderous aura and Inner Demon. 485 486 490 492

Despite his fear and self-loathing, Liu Feng is stubbornly unwilling to remain weak. After being defeated by Yu Zhiyu, he chooses another soul fusion rather than accept failure, resolving that he will eventually “grow bones and become a dragon.” 493 494 His growing strength gradually frees him from his former mentality of seeing himself as a useless failure. 497

Abilities & Skills

Inner Demon / Blackwater Materialization

Liu Feng's chosen path manifests as ink that can become written descriptions and then physical objects.

  • Can materialize simple objects such as torches, longswords, shields, doors, chains, hooks, and traps. 471 478 485 486
  • Materializations are guided primarily by textual descriptions, but vivid memories can supply details that Liu Feng could not otherwise create, such as the scent that mesmerizes Black Mist beasts. 471
  • Separated ink does not immediately return to him; it must be destroyed, retrieved at close range, or remain apart for more than a day. 486
  • The Inner Demon may become inert after being damaged or dispersed, leaving Liu Feng temporarily unable to use it. 471 486
  • Its growth threatens Liu Feng's identity, and tiger-soul fusion intensifies its influence. 490 496

Clear Heart Record

A scripture obtained from the Black Heaven Mask.

  • Enhances Liu Feng's mental clarity and memory. 486
  • Allows him to remain composed after killing and to recall Yu Zhiyu's swordsmanship in precise detail. 487 494
  • Suppresses and seals the Inner Demon when its will attempts to take control. 490 494
  • Cannot permanently remove the Inner Demon; it functions as restraint rather than a complete cure. 490

Tiger Soul Body-Fusion Art

An ancient method that lets Liu Feng bypass his inability to cultivate standard martial Inner Qi.

  • Fusing a tiger soul forcibly strengthens his body and produces Inner Qi. 488 490
  • The first fusion grants a fierce physique, poison resistance, and the foundation for Wind Sense. 488 492
  • The second fusion grants Immortal Tiger Bones, further improving his physique and Wind Sense. 494
  • Each fusion brings tiger-like baleful energy that can destroy his personality or strengthen the Inner Demon. 488 490
  • Repeated fusion severely depletes his body; after two fusions, he believes a third could kill him from nutritional exhaustion alone. 494 497

Wind Sense

A supernatural perception ability derived from tiger-soul fusion.

  • Reads most information carried by air currents. 492
  • Detects attacks, hidden weapons, poison smoke, and nearby enemies by sensing disturbances in the wind. 492 495
  • Generates small surrounding currents that filter some harmful airborne substances. 492
  • Can be defeated by enemies who remain still or otherwise exploit its perceptual blind spots. 496 498

Sword Bone and Sword Qi

A skill created from the special Sword Bone module and Inner Qi-based modules.

  • Sword Bone increases sword-type skills by 30%. 492
  • Forging Sword Bone alters Liu Feng's bones and grants instinctive knowledge of a sword's condition and use. 492
  • Allows him to project pale-yellow sword qi, though his initial Inner Qi reserve supports only about three shots. 492
  • Conflicts with Immortal Tiger Bones; the struggle strengthens the Inner Demon before Sword Bone is eventually reforged. 496 497

Wind-Listening Sword

Liu Feng's self-developed sword style, created by merging sword insight with Wind Sense.

  • Following the Sword — Uses flowing wind to guide sword trajectories. 497
  • Brushing the Wind — Draws surrounding wind into the sword's movement to accelerate and sharpen attacks. 497
  • Can accumulate wind into a whirlwind or a limited tornado-like effect when Liu Feng has favorable terrain and preparation time. 497
  • Its accumulated wind is less reliable against active opponents, whose resistance can disrupt the flow. 497

Wind Manipulation

After receiving insight from Yu Zhiyu's embedded sword intent, Liu Feng gains direct control over air movement.

  • Creates the Wind King Barrier, which refracts light around an object to make it appear invisible. 498
  • Can bend attacks around himself with violent currents of wind. 500
  • Forms an invisible field of wind blades capable of cutting apart approaching enemies. 500
  • Maintaining the wind-blade field nearly exhausts his mental energy. 500

Five Tigers Gate-Severing Blade

A five-move blade manual received from the Li brothers.

  • Uses tiger-bone medicinal paste to strengthen the body and lay a foundation for Inner Qi cultivation. 485 487
  • Its techniques become overwhelmingly lethal when combined with tiger-soul Inner Qi and baleful aura. 489 491
  • Liu Feng abandons frequent use of the style because it is too difficult to employ without killing or maiming opponents. 492

Equipment / Items

  • Black Heaven Mask — A Black Heaven Secret Treasure that grants the Clear Heart Record and summons its bearer to South Mountain to contend for the position of Lust Hall Master. 486
  • Five Tigers Gate-Severing Blade — A martial-arts manual containing body-strengthening methods, Inner Qi knowledge, and five blade techniques. 485
  • Ordinary longsword — Liu Feng's primary weapon after he turns away from the Five Tigers Gate-Severing Blade. 492
  • Sword Bone Module — Special module used to forge Sword Bone and enhance sword-type skills. 492

Relationships

  • Wang Xizhi — Temporary companion during the Black Mist instance. Wang abandons Liu Feng when he is surrounded, though he later calls Liu Feng his friend; Liu Feng then deliberately directs a pursuing beast toward him. 471
  • Qiu Shao / Zhao Shaoqiu — Black Heaven Hall's twenty-seventh-generation successor. Qiu Shao's mask ends up with Liu Feng, later recognizes his achievement, and addresses him as Lust Hall Master. 485 502
  • Yu Zhiyu — A vastly superior swordsman who defeats Liu Feng and exposes the secret of Black Heaven. Yu Zhiyu unknowingly leaves sword intent within Liu Feng, which later gives him insight into wind manipulation. 493 500
  • Luo Feiyan — Luo Family member who pursues the Black Heaven Mask and later bears hostility toward Liu Feng after failing to secure its full inheritance. 489 494
  • Luo Feng — Head of the Luo Family and Liu Feng's adversary during the assault on Luo Family Manor. He attempts to eliminate Liu Feng after witnessing his rapid growth. 498 500
  • Lena — Hostile figure in Liu Feng's first instance. She defeats and disarms him at the cult ritual site before he later retaliates against her. 476 478
  • Father Yas — Cult leader who deceives the townspeople and captures Liu Feng. Liu Feng kills him after the ritual fails. 477 479
  • Liu Feng's Inner Demon — His greatest source of power and danger. It materializes his ink-based abilities but seeks to overwhelm his identity as it grows stronger. 479 490 494
