"Class begins!"
Mu Jin set down the lesson plan in her hand, her clear voice ringing out across the entire classroom.
She was a woman in her thirties with sharp eyes, dressed in the standard Shrek Academy teacher's uniform.
"Good morning, teacher!"
"Students, please take your seats. I am Mu Jin, your homeroom teacher for the coming year."
Her gaze swept across the class, followed by a standard Shrek-style opening speech.
"At Shrek Academy, we cultivate monsters, not flowers in a greenhouse. The freshman assessment is in three months; those who fail or rank at the bottom will be expelled without exception."
However, Mu Jin was slightly more lenient in her requirements than the neighboring class; at the very least, she didn't tell them to get lost right from the start.
Next came the self-introduction segment, and Ning Tian's cultivation level of rank 31 naturally drew gasps from the entire room.
"Rank 31? Auxiliary-type?!"
"A Soul Elder under twelve years old? And an auxiliary-type at that?!"
"My god... is this even something a human can achieve?"
Countless gazes converged on the blonde girl, filled with shock, envy, and a hint of sour reluctance.
The cultivation of auxiliary-type Soul Masters was inherently much slower than other Soul Masters, let alone a Soul Elder under the age of twelve.
The Nine-Colored Goddess from ten thousand years ago was far inferior to Ning Tian at this age, though times were different now.
Ning Tian sat down with a calm expression, as if all of this were well within her expectations.
Jiang Yi stood up shortly after, reporting only his cultivation level and name, and glossing over his Martial Soul.
"Rank 28, Power Attack-type Battle Soul Master."
Although not as explosive as Ning Tian, it was enough to make many people cast sidelong glances.
"Ning Tian, Jiang Yi!"
After everyone had finished their introductions, Mu Jin singled the two of them out.
"Your cultivation levels are the highest, so you are provisionally appointed as the monitor and deputy monitor of Class Nine. Does anyone have any objections?"
She had no intention of negotiating, having decided the positions internally.
Competition was good, but orderly competition was effective; the two of them were the examples she was setting for the entire class.
"No!"
The group shouted in unison.
With one Soul Elder and one nearly a Soul Elder, while most of the class hadn't even reached rank 20, naturally, no one had any objections.
"Very well! However, the monitor positions are not permanent. If you have any ideas, you may challenge them."
"Since Ning Tian is an auxiliary Soul Master, challenges will be in a two-on-two format; you may choose your partners yourselves..."
Mu Jin added another sentence, then her expression turned stern. She slapped the lesson plan and looked at the crowd with a majestic gaze.
"Next, the first lesson of the semester!"
"Running!!!"
In Shrek Square, the statue of Tang San stood tall, with water spraying from beneath it, refracting a rainbow in the sunlight.
The students of Class Nine were jogging leisurely around the square.
Unlike the other classes, Mu Jin only required them to run twenty laps, but with one additional condition: they had to be in pairs, holding hands.
Most students had enrolled alone, and this requirement forced everyone to take the initiative to get to know the classmates around them.
"Thank you! Classmate Jiang Yi!"
A girl with light green hair held Jiang Yi's palm, her small face filled with gratitude.
Her voice was soft, like cotton candy, carrying a hint of caution.
Her personality was naturally gentle, and being a newcomer with a bit of social anxiety, by the time she gathered the courage to speak, everyone else had already found their partners.
Just as she was standing there all alone, feeling somewhat awkward, Jiang Yi had walked over and taken the initiative to help her out.
"It's no trouble at all! Besides, I look like someone nobody wanted either... we're just a pair of miserable siblings."
Jiang Yi shrugged his shoulders and gave her a faint smile.
This kind of soft-natured little girl was the easiest to bully; if he kissed her, she would probably cover her face and roll around on the ground.
"How could that be..."
Nanmen Yun'er looked at him with disbelief, but her eyes were curved into crescents, and she couldn't stop herself from feeling secretly delighted.
Jiang Yi's cultivation was so high that surely many girls would have been willing to be with him; she... she was the one who had picked up the bargain.
"Let's go! We're falling behind!"
Jiang Yi gently squeezed the little girl's hand and picked up the pace.
That palm was broad and warm, enveloping her small hand entirely. Nanmen Yun'er's heart skipped a few beats for no reason, and her earlobes quietly flushed a shade of pink.
"Okay."
She gave a sweet smile and obediently followed Jiang Yi as he began to run, her footsteps light as if she were treading on clouds.
Soon, the twenty-lap distance was completed. Upon reaching the finish line, Nanmen Yun'er let go of his hand with a hint of reluctance.
"That concludes our first lesson for today."
Mu Jin clapped her hands, drawing everyone's attention.
"I hope you can remember this feeling... No one can be strong alone. Unity is a mandatory course here at Shrek, just like the Shrek Seven Devils of the past!"
Mu Jin's voice was not loud, yet it reached everyone's ears with perfect clarity. Compared to Zhou Yi's harshness, she was far more adept at using gentle, persuasive methods.
"Understood!"
The students nodded one after another. They might not have learned much else in this class, but they had certainly made some friends.
Jiang Yi, for his part, looked at her with newfound respect.
He hadn't expected that Shrek Academy still had some normal teachers, rather than just people who told you to get lost the moment you arrived.
Although Mu Jin was positioned as a clown in the original work, from what he could see so far, Jiang Yi's impression of her was actually quite decent.
Of course, if it weren't for that wretched love triangle, Jiang Yi felt his impression would have been even better.
"Alright, class dismissed!"
Mu Jin waved her hand, immediately letting everyone disperse.
It was the first day of school, and she didn't want to exhaust them; she had left the first few days open for everyone to get settled.
"Long live the teacher!"
The students of Class Nine cheered and left in twos and threes.
"See you tomorrow!"
Nanmen Yun'er waved at Jiang Yi before turning to leave.
"See you tomorrow."
Jiang Yi waved back, watching the young girl depart before walking unhurriedly toward the other side of the plaza.
He had another appointment.
Meanwhile, beside a flower bed, two figures were stealthily watching Jiang Yi's retreating back.
"Miss, I think this guy is a total playboy; he's definitely not a good target! Can we pick someone else?"
Wu Feng withdrew her gaze and turned to advise Ning Tian, her tone carrying an imperceptible sense of urgency.
The Miss's happiness had to be vetted by her! Of course, if she got tired, she would push her away too... sob, sob, sob!!!
"It's fine! It's just normal interaction between classmates; I haven't even made a move yet! Let's just mark him down as Candidate Number Six for now..."
Ning Tian wiped the sweat from her forehead with a handkerchief and shook her head gently.
She was actually quite satisfied with Jiang Yi; his appearance and talent were both excellent, making him perfectly suitable to be listed as an object of observation.
She hadn't come to Shrek Academy just for simple learning.
As the young master of the Nine Treasures Glazed Sect, the treatment she received at the sect would only be better than what she had at Shrek Academy.
She was here to be a "sea king," and as the top academy on the entire continent, Shrek Academy was the best place for her to scout for partners.
This was also a tradition of the Nine Treasures Glazed Sect: the partner of the sect heir had to be a powerful Battle Soul Master, preferably a powerhouse from outside the sect.
Such grassroots geniuses without backgrounds were favored by the Nine Treasures Glazed Sect far more than those noble young masters.
"Understood, Miss."
Wu Feng pouted, reluctantly recording Jiang Yi's personal information in the small notebook in her hand.
She really disliked this feeling; it felt as if she were personally pushing the Miss toward someone else.
Yet she could not reveal her feelings to the Miss; the sect would not allow it, nor could it ever be accepted. If the two of them were together, the Miss's lineage would come to an end.
"Let's go!"
Ning Tian did not notice Wu Feng's abnormality and turned to leave, her pace composed and her silhouette elegant.
She had no resistance toward political marriage; having accepted the sect's cultivation, it was only natural for her to recruit talent for the sect.
