Northern Lands Society
The temperature in the Northern Territory seemed to have reached its lowest point upon entering the Northern Territory, or rather, the temperature drop further north was negligible.
Fran rode her Black Horse leisurely along the road where it was barely possible to distinguish between snow and the road.
The Black Horse seemed perfectly adapted to the temperature here, showing no signs of being affected by the cold.
Fran sat on the Black Horse, dressed in thin clothes, seemingly without any warm clothing.
Fran's current situation is similar to that of the other knights. Although she can feel the cold, the cold does not actually have a very high impact on her. At most, her hand will stiffen for a while after she extends it.
Her physical prowess from so many Profession isn't for nothing; even the wound she sustained from Connor's attack has almost completely healed after using Healing Potion.
In stark contrast to Fran's leisurely pace, Dorian followed behind Fran, one foot sinking into the shallow snow, making progress quite difficult.
He was wrapped in a thick coat, but the cold still made him shiver in the snow, and he struggled desperately to keep up with Fran's pace.
Fran glanced back and could only tell the Black Horse to slow down further so that Dorian could have an easier time.
But who knew that when the Black Horse slowed down, Dorian would also slow down.
Seeing Dorian's unsteady gait, Fran had no choice but to continue.
Perhaps the slowing down gave Dorian a chance to speak; he simply couldn't stand the cold and wanted to warm himself up by chatting.
"Hey friend, where did you buy your horse? How does it withstand the harsh cold of the Northern Territory?"
He looked at Fran's Black Horse with envy. It was because there was no creature that could adapt to both environments that he abandoned transportation and walked there alone.
Creatures that can adapt to the frigid environment of the Northern Territory are less able to adapt to warmer regions. Their various heat-preserving organs make them delirious from the heat.
Horses that can run at high speed in warm regions will feel cold all over when they run in cold regions.
Creatures that can adapt to these two regions generally cost a lot of money, Dorian, as a First Order Mage, did not have the extra money to buy them.
"I commissioned a mage from the Transmutation School to modify this horse so it could adapt to cold environments."
Dorian didn't ask any more questions; he knew that the cost of adapting to the cold environment was something he could afford.
But Fran clearly rode this Black Horse horse all the way from the Alliance to the Northern Territory.
Such a modification is clearly designed to adapt to both environments, but that would be quite expensive.
Another reason Dorian didn't ask any more questions was that he found that in this kind of weather, if he spoke directly, the Cold Air would hit his teeth.
He only said that much; if he continued, he would even become incoherent.
The two walked in silence. Fran was fine; the cold didn't affect her much, but Dorian suffered terribly.
Just as he was about to collapse and was about to suggest taking a break, his eyes widened as he saw something that greatly surprised him.
In the distance, a huge cylindrical object appeared, with thick smoke billowing from its top.
Just seeing this pillar made Dorian feel much warmer.
Ignoring the cold wind blowing into his mouth, he happily shared his joy with Fran.
"That's the headquarters of the Northern Lands Society."
"That pillar belching black smoke is a furnace commissioned by the Northern Lands Society and built by the Construct School specifically to combat the severe cold, providing warmth to the entire compound."
Dorian seemed to have seen a glimmer of hope, so he quickened his pace considerably, which also accelerated the Black Horse's speed.
As Fran got closer to the erected stove, Fran suddenly felt the previously frigid air begin to feel somewhat hot.
With each step she took forward, Fran could feel the heat of the stove rushing towards her.
Although this heat would be blown away by the cold wind in the frigid Northern Territory in the blink of an eye, Fran still felt a little warmer.
As the fireplace grew longer in their eyes, a black city wall came into Fran's view.
To Fran's surprise, outside the black city walls, there wasn't nothing at all, but rather a dense cluster of houses surrounding the main road into the city.
Seemingly noticing Fran's confusion, Dorian explained carefully:
"Those are ordinary civilians from the Northern Territory who came here to settle because it's warmer."
"Although the Northern Lands Society screens people entering the city, and these civilians can't get in at all, it's still much warmer on the outer perimeter than elsewhere."
This happened after the Northern Lands Society took over the land of the lord who wanted to join the Alliance. The commoners suddenly realized that there was no one above them anymore.
To be honest, those lords do have some function, such as clearing out various Magic Creature within their territories, distributing resources within their territories, and maintaining basic order.
However, the Northern Lands Society completely looked down on these commoners. They were a group of mages; what use were these commoners to them?
Therefore, they had no intention of taking over the civilians at all, and when they discovered that the civilians wanted to use their stoves, they simply drove them out of the city.
However, in the end, the Northern Lands Society did not go too far. After driving these civilians out of the city, the mages did not care at all, even if the civilians continued to huddle by their stoves not far from the city.
Later, because few mages from the Alliance came, the Northern Lands Society's membership didn't increase much after it arrived in the Northlands.
With no other option, the mages of the Northern Lands Society turned their attention to the common people outside the city, implementing the Alliance's mage education within the city to fill the gaps in their own academy.
Currently, the city built by the Northern Lands Society is the largest city in the Northern Territory Northern Territory.
Other cities don't have this large fireplace that provides warmth, so their environment is much better than other cities.
"Let's go in through this door."
Dorian pointed to the wide purple city gate and took the lead in walking forward.
Fran glanced around and saw that there was a very large queue lined up under the wide city gate.
However, Fran and Dorian's status as mages was no joke; as soon as they formed a queue, those in front of them wisely moved to the back.
They soon arrived at the city gate.
"Dorian the Elemental School." Dorian handed over his materials, and the guards didn't hesitate, waving him away without a second thought.
When Fran handed over the materials, Fran gatekeeper exclaimed in surprise.
"Your name is Fran?!"
