Mana Communication System
After Fran came out of the Society President's room, the other mages were still waiting there.
They also received a new order from Iris: to take Fran down and register in the Mana Communication System.
As Fran followed him downstairs, one of the leading mages suddenly spoke up:
"My name is Dylan, and I am a disciple of Society President Iris."
Fran paused for a moment, then responded with her own name.
Dylan hadn't wanted to reveal his name to the mage caught in the vortex, but his mentor's actions made him realize it.
His own mentor actually thought highly of this monk, not because of the mentor's reputation, but because the monk himself was talented.
If it's just based on the other person's recent reputation, then simply registering them under that supervisor's name will suffice.
His mentor also gave him an additional order: to include Fran in a project he was participating in, which was being led by the mage Philip.
There's a lot more to it than meets the eye here. Although he guessed that Fran would end up doing the same tedious work under Philip, just like him.
However, he guessed that Fran joined for the same reason as him: Iris wanted them to learn how researchers actually worked in this project.
This shows how much Iris values Fran, which makes him want to befriend her.
"Speaking of which, I'm also on the project you're going to be working on next."
This piqued Fran's interest, and just as she was about to ask for more details, Dylan said:
"I can't tell you here. If you really want to know, just come to the project team in a few days. This project is confidential."
Dylan explained to her why he wasn't revealing the specifics of the project.
This is a rule that the Northern Lands Society has had since its inception.
Ultimately, in the eyes of all monks, publishing their findings is a very private matter. They would not easily reveal what they were researching to others unless they had a very close relationship with them.
Even in large-scale projects led by certain mages, there are strict rules that mages who come to assist must not reveal any information about the project; those who violate this rule will be expelled from the project...
Dylan led Fran to the lobby on the first floor and walked to a window in the corner.
He knocked on the wall beside the window, waited a moment, and then the window opened. Dylan began to give his orders:
"Register a new mage on the Mana Communication System and get a Mana Receiving Board."
Then came the sound of footsteps coming from inside, which gradually faded away.
Dylan turned to Fran, took out a Mana Receiving Board from under his robes, and introduced it to Fran:
"This is the control Panel for this Mana Communication System. After you register, you can directly view all the knowledge collected by the system here, including the knowledge you can exchange for with Contribution Points."
"It's worth noting that you can only operate this magic element system in a specific area."
"Currently, this system can only be used within this Mage Tower, and even then, it's not a complete system; only specific areas can use it."
"The first floor of the Mage Tower is fully covered, but that's not the case on other floors. Most floors only have a small area available for operation, so each floor is equipped with a dedicated Mana Operation Room."
"And some floors cannot have this magic element operating system due to the presence of large Spell Apparatus, so it cannot be used there."
As Dylan explained to Fran, the person inside the window handed out a brand-new Mana Receiving Board.
Once Fran got her hands on it, she immediately began operating it. She simply touched a protrusion on the side, and a black and white image immediately appeared on the crystalline surface.
Indeed, Fran looked at the screen in front of her and confirmed that it was just a black and white image.
In contrast, the entire image contains only text, without even any symbols or logos.
What Fran is seeing now is a prompt to register or log in. Fran habitually swipes her finger across it, but it has no effect.
"Well, this thing isn't something you can just use directly. You need to use the input area on the back of the crystal plate to input information."
Dylan noticed Fran's behavior, frowned, and gave her a reminder.
Fran flipped the Mana Receiving Board back and saw a dent on the back.
Then, with Dylan's explanation, Fran finally figured out how to use this place; it turned out to be a very advanced handwriting input method.
However, the precision requirements for this handwriting input are too high; users must draw standard letters in order to upload them.
This is difficult even for mages with strong Mental Power and precise control, and if an input error is made, the only option is to clear the input; there is no backspace.
After three attempts, Fran finally managed to write [Lai]'s name on it.
After seeing Fran's name, Dylan raised an eyebrow and reminded her:
"If you want to change your name later, you can come back here and spend three Gold Coin to buy a new one and write your name on it again."
"From now on, all your published Paper can only be published using the name on this Mana Communication System."
After years of operation, the Mana Communication System was announced by Iris five years ago to be fully rolled out, and the original paper-based distribution model had long been abolished.
Fran seemed thoughtful after hearing this.
Dylan then continued:
"Your account should have no Contribution Points right now, so you can only view free Paper. Just search for 000001; we use this number to search for Paper from the group."
"No keyword search?" Fran suppressed her doubts and didn't voice them.
Compared to letters, numbers are much easier to input. Fran quickly saw a pop-up page filled with text.
Fran glanced at it briefly before frowning.
In her opinion, this Magic Element operating system was too outdated. Not to mention many useful functions, the text layout alone was extremely uncomfortable.
The entire text has no distinction between size and thickness, only very simple line breaks to prevent all the text from crowding together.
Dylan coughed a few times, then said:
"Then you can explore here at your own pace. Master Philip has some matters to attend to, and we won't be able to participate in that project for another three days. I'll let you know then."
Dylan knew that mages were passionate about exploring the unknown, and every mage who obtained this item would enthusiastically operate it for a long time.
Even Dylan himself, after his first attempt, spent the entire night searching from number 1 to number 1000 in the lobby.
In the end, he counted the Paper that could be viewed for free and found that there were only about 20.
