Discovery
When Ka'erfu regained consciousness, the first thing he smelled was the stench of the rotting corpse, which made him frown and instinctively want to cover his nose with his hand.
But when he tried to move his hand, he found himself powerless, and it was very difficult to even lift one hand. He tried to turn his head to reduce the distance his hand had to move.
But as soon as he moved his head, he felt pain in the back of his neck and let out an unbearable groan, forcing him to abandon the idea and keep his head in place.
"Woke up?"
A soft female voice came from behind him. The pain he had just experienced had its benefits, as it had unleashed even more power into his body.
He suddenly opened his eyes and saw a woman bending slightly over and looking at him.
Although he had just woken up, his senses returned quickly. He felt the other party's immense Magic Power and the emblem of the Transmutation School on his chest.
"Who... who are you?" he uttered weakly, and Lucy answered.
"Lucy Roltz, the head of the Grey Soil Province of the Transmutation School... I think you probably don't want to see me."
Ka'erfu endured the pain, forced himself to sit up on the ground, and gasped for breath, but was choked by the stench in the air.
"The ones who attacked me were... the Transmutation School. How do you explain your School's members attacking Investigator who was on a mission?"
"Oh!" Lucy only knew that he had been attacked by a Formal Mage, while the apprentices, in their panic, had no idea what kind of spell the other party had used. The apprentices only heard Ka'erfu say "Formal Mage" before he fell to the ground.
Furthermore, since Ka'erfu himself was a Formal Mage, the person who could defeat him was naturally also Formal Mage. Therefore, Lucy knew that the attacker was Formal Mage, but she didn't know which School he belonged to.
"Explain in detail why you believe the Attackers was a member of the Transmutation School."
Ka'erfu, enduring the pain, forced a smile and said:
"Because he used the Transmutation School's magic [Disorderly Touch], and used his powerful Mental Power to take me down... Of course, the reason he was able to take me down so easily was also because he has Transmutation School magic specialty..."
"And... I think he even implanted something related to enhancing Mental Power in his brain, which is why his Mental Power is so high, and he can even spare a part of his Telekinetic Hand to control an evil spirit I've been raising for three years."
Lucy crossed one arm over her chest, pressed the other arm down with her other hand, raised her index finger, and said:
"Judging from this, he really is a mage who is highly proficient in the magic of the Transmutation School..."
Ka'erfu felt he had rested enough, and slowly stood up, supporting his neck with one hand.
After standing up, he sneered:
"Then, Ms. Lucy, could you explain why people from your School attacked me, the Investigator?"
"If I report this to higher authorities, it could be said that the Transmutation School deliberately obstructed the Investigator from carrying out their mission."
Lucy, however, gave a cold laugh, her once gentle voice turning icy.
"Who said he's one of our Transmutation School?"
"This makes no sense. He can use the Transmutation School's spells and his specialties..."
"First of all, I don't recall any First Order Mage in the City of Apprentices possessing such strong Mental Power. Besides, we all tend to use the magical abilities granted by the organs of Magic Creature. Who would use magic to attack you?"
"But what if that person is trying to conceal their supernatural organs? They might be deliberately attacking me with magic... You know, the easiest way to identify someone from your Transmutation School is to look for any supernatural organs they have."
Lucy didn't even flinch at these questions, and quickly replied:
"I said, I don't acknowledge them as members of our Transmutation School."
"You..."
Lucy interrupted him quickly, pointing to the law enforcement officer beside her:
"I think you should put this matter aside for now and check the records of the law enforcement officers you brought with you."
Ka'erfu looked puzzled, not understanding why Lucy would bring up the records kept by law enforcement.
He hesitated for a moment, then took the notebook from the law enforcement officer beside him and began to read the specially marked sections.
At this moment, Lucy said:
"His name is Rod, and he is wearing a black robe to conceal his identity. Upon questioning, his face is covered in scars, which he claims are due to experimental errors. He identifies himself as a member of the Transmutation School and states that he did not bring his badge as proof."
"Stay in the crowd and wait for the check to be completed before you can leave."
"These are the records above, and this person is the one who attacked you."
"Now I ask you, if someone claims to be from your Necromancy School without even showing their badge, would you really believe they are from the Necromancy School?"
"You..."
Ka'erfu knew he couldn't cause trouble for the Transmutation School in this matter; they had actually seen the contents of the notebook.
The Alliance is an administrative body that is very good at smoothing things over; it will never make a conclusion rashly without absolute evidence.
He knew that this notebook, unless there were new developments, would be of no use to the Transmutation School regarding his attack.
After all, if the Alliance doesn't even recognize its own records, then what other evidence can be accepted?
He could already imagine that when the Alliance's commissioner saw this notebook in court, he would fall silent immediately, and nothing he said would make a difference.
He wouldn't even have a chance to destroy the notebook; the woman most likely requested the transfer of the record while he was unconscious, and it was sent to the Investigator Headquarters.
However, since there's no way to solve this problem, let's try something else.
Ka'erfu rolled his eyes and said to one of the law enforcement officers:
"Who was it that dragged a body bag before I lost consciousness, saying it was what I was looking for?"
"I..."
One of the law enforcement officers spoke up timidly.
"Bring that thing here, let us see what's going on."
Then Ka'erfu turned to Lucy and said:
"I think you're absolutely right. We can't just assume someone belongs to a particular School based on the spell they cast. We need to examine them more closely."
"And now, there's something I don't understand: why did that person attack me?"
"And it just so happened that it came at the exact moment I was about to go and examine the body. Of all times, it had to be this right."
He wanted to see Lucy's expression, but Lucy remained expressionless and didn't even respond to his long speech, instead looking at the law enforcement officers who were dragging the body bag over.
Law enforcement officers quickly opened the body bag, revealing a corpse inside.
It was a male human corpse, intact, without any visible injuries, and its chest emitted a faint white light.
