Origins: Ōtsutsuki

While unconscious, Kamizuki had a very, very long dream.

The first thing to appear in the dream was an old man with a long beard. Two horns grew from his head, rather like those of an antelope.

Without saying a word, the old man poked Kamizuki in the forehead. At the same time, a scene appeared in his mind, playing out just like a movie.

The scene playing in Kamizuki's mind went like this:

A woman who seemed to have come from another planet descended from the sky. Her name was Otsutsuki Kaguya. After becoming pregnant with the child of Tenji, the ruler of the Land of Ancestors, she secretly ate the God Tree's fruit and gained immense power. Using that power, she employed the Infinite Tsukuyomi to single-handedly put an end to the wars.

It was said, "Princess Kaguya was an 'ascetic,' yet she was able to bear a child entirely because of the blessings of the people of the Land of Ancestors."

After putting an end to the wars, Princess Kaguya gave birth to two children. The elder son was named Hagoromo Otsutsuki—the future Sage of Six Paths—and the younger son was named Hamura Otsutsuki.

After giving birth, Princess Kaguya gradually grew greedy. She wanted to keep the entire world under her control forever.

One day, after they had grown up, Hagoromo and Hamura went to the interior of a place called the Cliff of the End to investigate what had happened to the people who had gone to worship the God Tree and never returned. Later, the two of them went to Mount Myoboku and found Gamamaru, learning about their mother and the God Tree's past.

From then on, Hagoromo and Hamura began to feel resentment toward their mother, Princess Kaguya.

Afterward, the two brothers fought a great battle against their mother, Princess Kaguya. During the fight, their mother took control of Hamura. Hagoromo was left with no choice but to kill his brother, who was under their mother's control. He later revived Hamura using the Rinne Tensei technique. In the end, the brothers joined forces and used Six Paths: Chibaku Tensei to seal their mother, Princess Kaguya, inside the moon.

After sealing their mother, the elder brother, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, remained in the Land of Ancestors. He spread the way of the ninja and taught people various ninjutsu, and was later known as the Sage of Six Paths.

As for the younger brother, Hamura Otsutsuki, after his elder brother appointed him leader of the Ōtsutsuki Clan, the clan's duty became watching over their mother, Princess Kaguya, sealed away on the moon.

So Hamura left one descendant behind, entrusting him to his elder brother's care. Then he took all the Ōtsutsuki with him to live on the moon.

The scene ended there. At the very moment it ended, Kamizuki opened his eyes as well. The eyes that opened were no longer the Byakugan he'd had before. In their place was a pair of eyes like a full moon.

Kamizuki shook his head, which was reeling from the flood of information, and got up from the ground. After standing, he blinked naturally. When he opened his eyes again, the pair of eyes like a full moon had already changed back into his former Byakugan.

Of course, Kamizuki knew nothing about any of this.

At some point, Kamizuki had woken from his dream. After coming to, he looked around and was astonished to realize that, somehow, he was already back in his room.

As he tried hard to remember how he had gotten back to his room, Hiashi came in through the door, his face full of worry.

Only after entering did Hiashi notice that Kamizuki was awake. He hurried over to the tatami where Kamizuki was lying.

He asked anxiously, "What happened to you, little Moon? What exactly happened?"

Hearing Hiashi's question, Kamizuki's head was still a little muddled. He gave a dazed "Uh."

Seeing that Kamizuki seemed distracted, Hiashi didn't press him further. He simply reminded him to get plenty of rest before leaving.

Later, Kamizuki learned from Hinata that, on the day after their mother's funeral, he had disappeared for an entire day. After he went missing, Hiashi had sent nearly everyone in the clan out to search for him. They searched all night but couldn't find him. Just as the clan members who had gone out looking for Kamizuki returned, exhausted, and were about to report to Hiashi, the ones who had just reached the front gate spotted Kamizuki unconscious outside it.

No one knew how he had made it back to the front gate of his home.

On the second day after Kamizuki woke up, Hiashi came to his room again. He sat on the tatami and stared at Kamizuki's face without saying a word.

With Hiashi staring at him, Kamizuki felt a little scared and guilty. He didn't know why.

He thought it would be better not to tell Hiashi about his dream. After all, he himself wasn't sure whether any of it had been a dream or real.

Kamizuki made up a casual lie to fob Hiashi off about what had happened before he disappeared and lost consciousness.

Hiashi wore an expression that clearly said he didn't believe him, and kept staring at him.

Looking at Hiashi's expression, Kamizuki could only awkwardly rub the back of his head and give him a silly grin.

Seeing that Kamizuki was hiding something from him, Hiashi didn't keep asking. He simply told Kamizuki to rest at home for a few days, since school would be starting again soon.

During those two days of recovery, Hinata Hyuga, the eldest sister, came to Kamizuki's room every day with Hanabi in her arms to keep him company and chat.

Kamizuki could see that Hinata had lost a lot of weight over those two days. It was no wonder. Their mother had just died, and then she had discovered that her younger brother was missing. Though they had found him, he was unconscious. It had left Hinata, who was still so young, physically and emotionally exhausted.

Seeing Hinata like that, Kamizuki felt awful for her. He felt truly sorry that he had made her worry so much.

Looking at Hinata with utter sincerity, Kamizuki said earnestly, "I'm sorry for making you worry these past two days."

Under Kamizuki's gaze, Hinata grew embarrassed again, and her little cheeks turned bright red. She said softly, "It's all right!"

The two siblings smiled at each other. Hinata suddenly seemed to remember something and cried out, "Ah!" Only then did she realize she had gotten a little carried away. She gave Kamizuki an awkward smile and said, "I forgot to tell you—starting this term, I'll be going to the Ninja Academy too."

Hearing that, Kamizuki went, "Uh," and felt happy for Hinata. But before long, something seemed a little off to him.

After thinking it over, he realized he was remembering that, in the original story, Hinata and Naruto seemed to have started school at around six or seven!

Why was Hinata going to the Konoha Ninja School when she had only just turned five?

In some ways, Kamizuki was rather lazy. For instance, when he ran into something he couldn't figure out, he wouldn't dwell on it. It would only wear him out and waste his brain cells.
