The Shadow walked out of a room on the third floor of the Haunted House. He saw a marble rolling down the stairs, and followed it to the first floor.
There was no one around. The solitary Shadow continued onward, watching as the marble rolled into the bathroom and came to a stop in front of a stall door.
The midnight chimes had stopped. The Shadow walked over to the stall and bent down to pick up the marble, only to notice that the door wasn't fully shut.
He pressed himself against the door and peered inside. All he saw was a sea of blood-red.
Holding the marble in both hands, the Shadow stepped through the Door. He wandered through the blood-red world. Perhaps because he'd forgotten some of his memories, the buildings on either side were extremely blurry. He could only make out that he was in a blood-red city.
The Shadow couldn't find his way back. He wandered aimlessly, clutching the marble, until a hand landed on his shoulder.
It was a child's hand, its fingers covered in dark red blood.
The Shadow jumped in fright and slowly turned his head, but the scene in his mind vanished at that moment.
"The Door in the Haunted House connects to the Blood-colored City? Can it take you to the city center?" Chen Ge's mind was full of questions. He could now be sure that the Shadow had entered the World Behind the Door, and that he had turned evil after going through that Door.
Judging from this memory alone, the Shadow had been perfectly normal before entering the World Behind the Door. He did sometimes sneak out to play at night, but overall, his behavior had been within acceptable bounds.
