Ch. 21Danzo
Chapter Summary: “Danzo”
Key Plot Points and Events
- Tsunade examines Uchiha Gen, who is posing as Uzumaki Reikawa, and tests his chakra and abilities.
- Gen reveals that he knows the Four Symbols Seal and the Adamantine Sealing Chains, a rare Uzumaki technique capable of restraining Tailed Beasts. This convinces Tsunade that he may genuinely be descended from the Uzumaki main family.
- Gen gives Tsunade a fabricated backstory: his mother allegedly died of illness after teaching him basic ninja skills, leaving him only two sealing techniques. He also implies resentment toward Konoha for failing to protect the Uzumaki.
- Tsunade arranges for Gen to stay with Kakashi, both because Konoha lacks housing and because Kakashi can monitor him.
- Gen meets Naruto and the others. He argues that true Uzumaki members should have red hair, prompting Naruto to wonder whether one of his parents had red hair. Sasuke also begins questioning Naruto’s hidden heritage and why Konoha conceals it.
- Orochimaru learns that a living Uchiha may be operating under the identity of Uzumaki Reikawa. He is intrigued and regrets not controlling Gen earlier.
- Gen secretly learns the Multi Shadow Clone Technique and is pleased when Danzo takes an interest in him.
- A Root operative comes to summon Gen, claiming that the Hokage wants to see him. Gen realizes he is being taken to Danzo, then uses the Sharingan to control the operative and force him to lead the way.
- At Danzo’s base, Gen disguises himself as a mysterious white-masked figure. When Danzo attempts to attack with Wind Release: Vacuum Wave, the figure disappears, leaving Danzo to suspect Akatsuki involvement.
Character Developments
- Uchiha Gen/Reikawa demonstrates strong deception, emotional control, and tactical planning. He manipulates Tsunade with a carefully constructed tragic history and uses the Sharingan to infiltrate Danzo’s Root organization.
- Tsunade becomes increasingly convinced that Gen is a genuine Uzumaki and considers investigating Kusagakure to locate other surviving clan members.
- Kakashi accepts Gen into his home but intends to keep an eye on him because of his connection to the Uzumaki clan.
- Naruto begins questioning his own parentage after Gen explains the Uzumaki’s red hair and large chakra reserves.
- Sasuke grows more suspicious of the secrets surrounding Naruto, especially the possibility that Naruto is connected to the Fourth Hokage.
- Danzo becomes interested in recruiting Gen but is quickly outmaneuvered and confused by Gen’s infiltration.
- Orochimaru views Gen as an especially fascinating and potentially valuable subject.
