Tiffany was also served enough roasted horse meat, but she gave up after only tasting a tiny bit—as did everyone else. Because the meat was either burnt to a crisp or still raw, or both, Tiffany would rather go hungry than eat such things.
Just as Tiffany was greedily slurping grains from a large wooden spoon, an discordant sound suddenly echoed through the shed.
"Gurgle!"
Tiffany froze, instinctively touching her lower abdomen—even though she had eaten quite a bit, it remained as flat as ever.
"It wasn't me!" Tiffany put down the large wooden spoon and explained to Malone, looking embarrassed.
"I know..." Malone's expression looked both confused and incredulous.
"Was it... you? Mr. Malone?" Tiffany asked.
"It was me..." Malone's expression remained vacant. He murmured, seemingly speaking to Tiffany, yet also talking to himself.
"Why would it be me?"
Just then, the same sound rang out again, and Malone could finally confirm that from within his stomach, or perhaps his lower abdomen—in any case, a gurgling sound had indeed erupted.
Malone carefully recalled the information regarding Death Knights, especially the first generation.
Without a doubt, Death Knights were dead.
Although the most famous Death Knight, Arthas Menethil, had completed the transition from living to dead at some unknown point, all other Death Knights were made from the dead, especially the first generation.
I am a Death Knight, Malone told himself, but what kind of Death Knight gets hungry?
Do the undead actually have an appetite?
Perhaps some do; otherwise, things like ghouls wouldn't exist.
However, Malone had never heard of any Death Knight being interested in the food of the living.
"Teron, look at this stuff..." Malone nudged Teron Gorefiend, who was lost in thought, seeking verification. "Do you want to eat?"
"Eat?" Teron Gorefiend looked at the clay pot Malone was pointing to and asked, puzzled, "Why would I eat? I am already a dead man!"
"But... don't you feel any urge to eat at all? Does the smell not give you an appetite? If you don't eat, how do you sustain your body's activities?" Malone asked a barrage of questions, unwilling to give up.
"How should I know... you'd have to ask Gul'dan about that." Teron Gorefiend couldn't provide any answer to Malone's questions.
Malone lowered his head in dejection—he needed time to think about what exactly he was.
Undoubtedly, Malone was a Death Knight—both Teron Gorefiend's testimony and Malone's own memories confirmed this.
Including that voice; Malone still remembered the mechanical sound that had explicitly stated he had unlocked the "Death Knight" class.
But Malone had discovered issues with his body, and these problems troubled him.
How could a Death Knight sweat? How could he smell the stench of decay on Teron Gorefiend? How could he feel pain? How could he be scalded by hot water?
More importantly, how could a Death Knight be hungry?
Perhaps he wasn't a Death Knight—at least, his body wasn't—a discovery that made Malone both happy and worried.
Malone certainly didn't want to be a dead man—what joy was there in being dead? You couldn't eat or drink, and more importantly, Malone felt that a Death Knight probably couldn't find a girlfriend either.
Of course, not being a Death Knight brought other problems. At the very least, Malone's previous plans might be cut short—if he needed to eat and drink, how could he stay away from people? He couldn't rely on hunting in the mountains every day, could he?
Just as Malone was deep in thought, he suddenly noticed a large wooden spoon appearing in front of him.
Malone looked up in surprise to find Tiffany covering her mouth with a small hand, giggling.
"Mr. Malone, you're hungry too, right? Have some! I can't finish all this by myself!" Tiffany said with a smile.
"I..." Malone hesitated, then took the wooden spoon from Tiffany's hand, brought it to his mouth, and took a sip of the meat porridge, which he had no idea how it was made.
It tastes terrible... Malone frowned—but this attempt confirmed that he did indeed need to eat.
Theoretically, a Death Knight's esophagus and throat should be rotted away; even if they consumed food, it would only become waste within the body.
But for Malone, the sensation of that warm liquid flowing down his throat into his stomach felt exactly like eating when he was alive—this was definitely not something that should happen to a Death Knight.
Although the food in the pot made Malone feel nauseous, under Tiffany's encouragement, he managed to eat a few mouthfuls.
Since I've confirmed I'm a Death Knight who needs to eat, I must at least eat something to keep my strength up, Malone thought—after all, he still had to take Tiffany away from this military camp.
And so, Malone and Tiffany took turns, and soon the contents of the pot were finished.
Gently licking her lips, Tiffany patted her stomach with her small hand—even though she had eaten quite a bit, it remained as flat as ever.
Noticing Malone staring at her blankly, Tiffany couldn't help but blush, lowering her head shyly—perhaps because it was the first full meal she'd had in many days, the young noble lady had gotten a bit carried away, displaying a very "unladylike" gesture.
"Maicomarlon, what are you doing!" Teron Gorefiend watched in astonishment as Malone placed the large wooden spoon back into the pot.
"What am I doing? I'm eating!" Malone replied casually.
"Eating? Are you crazy?" Teron Gorefiend reached out to grab Malone's throat. "We Death Knights cannot eat. That stuff will only sit in your intestines and accelerate your body's decay... spit it out now!"
Teron Gorefiend shoved his fingers into Malone's mouth, trying to force his companion to vomit up what he had just eaten.
"What are you doing, Teron!" Malone pushed Teron Gorefiend's hand away and said with dissatisfaction, "I'm different from you. I'm the kind of Death Knight that needs to eat."
"A Death Knight that eats? How could such a thing exist?" Teron Gorefiend looked at Malone's face; he didn't believe a word of it.
"I'm taking you to see Gul'dan!" Teron Gorefiend said to Malone. "Maicomarlon, I think you're acting strange."
"See Gul'dan, my foot..." Malone knew who Gul'dan was. He didn't know if Gul'dan could see through the secrets of his body, and naturally, he didn't want to take that risk.
