Background / History

The Burning Blade Clan formerly remained close to Gul'dan's Shadow Council and loyal to Warchief Blackhand. After Orgrim Doomhammer killed Blackhand and destroyed the Shadow Council, Kaldara's clan pledged itself to Orgrim rather than risk fracturing the Horde. Orgrim nevertheless kept Kaldara on patrol with orcs from other clans instead of fully trusting him 15.

Kaldara first encounters Malone at an orc prisoner-of-war camp. Recognizing him as a Death Knight and understanding the political danger of attacking one, Kaldara prevents his squad from immediately killing Malone. Their dispute over the captive Tiffany escalates into a one-on-one duel under Burning Blade custom 12 13.

Kaldara defeats Malone through superior movement, tactical adaptation, and swordsmanship. He deflects Malone's Death Coil, exploits Malone's predictable attacks, and ends the duel with his blade at Malone's neck. Rather than kill him, Kaldara performs the Burning Blade ritual of forcing a defeated opponent to confront fear of death 14 15.

Although Kaldara initially claims Tiffany as his squad's spoils, he later tells Orgrim that he lost her to Teron Gorefiend in a fight. He uses this version of events to end the dispute, then seeks Talrama's removal from his squad after Talrama reports the incident 30 31.

During rising Horde tensions with the Trolls, Kaldara seeks advice from Malone and Teron Gorefiend despite openly admitting that he is not good at thinking through political problems. He pressures Malone for a solution, even threatening Tiffany's safety to do so 34 35. He subsequently brings Kilrogg Deadeye a severed Troll head, presenting it as the killer of Bloodfang clansmen to give the clan a symbol of vengeance without openly breaking the Horde–Troll alliance 40 41.

He is willing to challenge Orgrim's authority in public simply because he wants to test the Warchief's strength, and he is unconcerned if others believe he surrendered to Teron Gorefiend; anyone hoping to gain fame by challenging him can try 30 32 33.

He is also more calculating than Malone initially expects. Kaldara avoids a potentially damaging fight with the Death Knights, manipulates the account of Tiffany's transfer, and devises a symbolic answer to the Bloodfang Clan's demand for revenge 12 30 40 41.

Despite his cruelty toward captives and his readiness to threaten Tiffany, Kaldara later displays a more casual and sociable side. He brings food to Malone and Tiffany, jokes about the Burning Blade Clan's name, openly calls Malone and Teron his friends, and volunteers to teach Malone combat techniques 35 43 44 47 48.
