Background / History

Orgrim overthrew the first Horde Warchief, Blackhand the Destroyer, and became Warchief. During the conflict, he also killed members of Gul'dan's Shadow Council, including the warlock Maicomarlon; Gul'dan later used Maicomarlon's soul in the creation of a Death Knight. 3 4 7

Unlike the other orcs in the camp, Orgrim is noted as never having drunk Mannoroth's blood. 7 After the Horde conquered Stormwind, he established his command camp at the foot of Blackrock Mountain, where the strongest orcs served as his personal guard and his Blackrock Clan possessed better provisions than the surrounding camps. 29

Orgrim and Teron Gorefiend agreed to conceal the Death Knights' origins from the wider Horde. This secrecy becomes significant when Gorefiend brings the human-looking Malone before the Warchief. 30

Appearance

Orgrim is seen seated on a broad black throne covered in beast fur, with the warhammer Doomhammer strapped across his back. His voice is powerful enough to immediately silence an uproar of hostile orcs. 29

Personality

Orgrim values Horde unity and restrains himself from turning every challenge into a blood feud. When Kaldara provokes him during the dispute over Tiffany, Orgrim initially reaches for Doomhammer but chooses to hear the explanation instead. He later ends the matter with a warning rather than punishing either Kaldara or the Death Knights severely. 30 31

This restraint earns criticism from Teron Gorefiend and Kaldara, who consider him too weak toward both Kilrogg and Zul'jin. Kaldara specifically views Orgrim as an excellent lieutenant—resourceful and brave in battle—but an overly hesitant Warchief whose desire to avoid offending factions leaves problems unresolved. 33

Behind his public caution, Orgrim is willing to act decisively against an open challenge to his authority. He delays implementing Rend Blackhand's plan during the Orc–Troll crisis in order to determine whether Kilrogg intends rebellion; if so, he resolves to kill Kilrogg and replace him as Bloodfang chieftain. 39

Death Knight Summons

As tensions rise between the Death Knights and the orcs, Orgrim sends Tabek to retrieve Teron Gorefiend and Malone. He receives them in his command tent, immediately suppresses the crowd's reaction to Malone's human appearance, and investigates Kaldara's accusation that the Death Knights stole a prisoner. 28 29 30

Orgrim accepts Kaldara's claim that the incident was merely a brawl, closes the dispute, and instructs Gorefiend to keep the Death Knights under control. 31

Orc–Troll Tensions

Orgrim attempts to manage the fallout after a Troll kills and scalps a Bloodfang orc. His restrained handling of the dispute frustrates Kilrogg and leads Teron Gorefiend and Kaldara to question his suitability as Warchief. 31 33

Privately, Orgrim tells Rend Blackhand that he has a plan and is deliberately waiting to see whether Kilrogg will exploit the crisis to challenge him. If Kilrogg does, Orgrim intends to kill him and install a new Bloodfang chieftain. 39
