Background / History

Ma Xiaotao was a Shrek Academy student whose martial soul had mutated from an ordinary chicken into the Evil Fire Phoenix. The mutation granted her exceptional talent but left her tormented by the unstable Phoenix Evil Fire, particularly when she reached the bottleneck before Soul Saint. Her uncontrolled power made her a dangerous “powder keg.” 1

While fleeing the Scarlet King in the Star Dou Great Forest, she encountered Lin Feng. He defended her and used his Flame Mantra to devour part of her Phoenix Evil Fire, providing a degree of relief that far surpassed previous attempts to suppress it. In return, Ma Xiaotao recommended him to Shrek Academy and promised that Shrek would be his second home. 1 2

Lin Feng’s ability to handle her flames gradually made him her essential cultivation partner. Their repeated cultivation sessions allowed him to reduce her condition and even improved one of her soul rings to the thousand-year level. 5 7 During a crisis caused by one-hundred-thousand-year Whale Rubber, her Evil Fire underwent nirvana; Lin Feng extracted its impure source, enabling her martial soul to evolve into a pure Fire Phoenix and propelling her directly to Soul Saint. 22 23

Later, Ma Xiaotao was gravely poisoned after protecting others from an explosion in the Mingdou Mountain Range. Lin Feng, Yan Shaozhe, and Xuan Zi combined the effects of one-hundred-thousand-year Blazing Glue with Bright Phoenix Fire and Nirvana Phoenix Fire to save her. The ordeal triggered another martial soul evolution, producing the Three-Headed Fire Phoenix. 68 69

After Lin Feng founded the Sky Fire Sect, Ma Xiaotao accepted the position of vice sect master. When he later departed with the Body Sect for the Far North, he entrusted the sect’s leadership to her. 95 103

Despite her forceful manner, she is deeply protective and caring toward Lin Feng. She recommends him to Shrek, brings him into her life at the academy, tends to him when his cultivation causes complications, and repeatedly supports his advancement. 1 9 31 Her attachment becomes explicit after her purification, when she declares that she will remain with him for life. 24
