Madara confronted Danzo and the Uchiha, but Setsuna refused to join his plan to cast the world into an eternal dream. Setsuna and Fugaku revealed their Mangekyō and fought Madara, who began regaining his former power as Fugaku glimpsed a devastating future.
Uchiha Madara overwhelmed Setsuna Uchiha and Fugaku with his Complete Body Susanoo, but his temporary power failed before he could finish them. Meanwhile, Shingen and his allies freed the Two-Tails from Madara’s genjutsu and sealed it back inside Yugito, while Shingen worried about Setsuna’s fate.
After the Two-Tails' rampage, Danzo tried to seize Uchiha Shingen, but Fugaku, Minato, and Nara Shikaku stopped him and arranged an official investigation. Shingen returned to the devastated Police Force headquarters, reflected on the coming war, and discovered that his abilities and evaluation had improved.
After learning that Uchiha Madara had returned for him and realizing the danger of Madara’s plan, Uchiha Shingen prioritized awakening his Mangekyō Sharingan. The Third Hokage promoted Shingen and Kakashi to Jonin, then offered Shingen compensation for helping build Minato’s reputation; Shingen asked to learn the Flying Thunder God Technique.
Kakashi asked the Third Hokage whether missions or comrades mattered more, then decided to seek a powerful technique so he could protect both. As Uchiha Shingen struggled to learn the Flying Thunder God, Ōnoki prepared to invade the Land of Fire, but Iwagakure’s Five-Tails went berserk and began destroying the village.
Orochimaru released the Five-Tails in Iwagakure, while Konoha prepared for war after his report revealed the danger of the Iwagakure Explosive Corps. The Third Hokage began positioning Minato as his successor, but the chapter ended with Minato questioning the village’s compromises and learning why the Third Hokage kept Danzo and Root in place.
Minato learned that the Third Hokage intended to groom him as Hokage, while Danzo recruited Orochimaru to oppose him with promises of valuable research. As Konoha settled into a tense lull, Uchiha Shingen resumed his Police Force duties and struggled to learn the Flying Thunder God before Minato introduced him to Yahiko.
Uchiha Shingen, Minato, and Jiraiya hosted Yahiko before he returned to Amegakure, where the Akatsuki pursued its goal of ending war through mutual understanding. After Shingen warned that Yahiko’s ideal was naive, Minato offered him a simplified teleportation technique in exchange for help if he became Hokage, and Shingen agreed to assist when needed while staying in the Police Force.
Uchiha Shingen studied Minato’s Flying Thunder Formation Technique notes, trained his clones, and raised his Chakra to level six, greatly improving his reserves and control. His quiet office life ended when Mei Terumi was detained at a bookstore and claimed she was already his woman, leaving Shingen bewildered as the Third Hokage and Minato confronted him.
After Kirigakure’s team left Konoha, Yagura recruited Zabuza, Kisame, and Mei Terumi to help end the Bloody Mist Village. Uchiha Shingen advanced his Flying Thunder Formation Technique, but the Third Hokage soon ordered him and Kakashi to escort Minato to the Land of Iron for peace talks with Kumogakure.
Shingen prepared to accompany Minato and Kakashi to peace talks in the Land of Iron, then visited the recovering Setsuna and learned more about Madara and Mangekyō Sharingan. As the team set out, the Third Raikage received evidence of a Five-Tails rampage in Iwagakure and suspected Konoha had also caused past jinchūriki incidents.
Kumogakure learned that Buruibi’s death had been orchestrated and planned to use Iwagakure’s anger against Konoha while preparing for peace talks. Meanwhile, Sasori transferred himself into a White Zetsu body and prepared to target the Konoha delegation, leaving Uchiha Shingen unaware of the danger as he returned to the Police Force.
Minato, Kakashi, and Uchiha Shingen traveled to the Land of Iron for peace talks and met Mifune’s samurai delegation at Three Wolves Castle. With the Third Raikage delayed, the Konoha team settled in to wait as Shingen prepared to resume his training.
Uchiha Shingen confronted his growing battle hunger by training his swordsmanship in the Land of Iron, while Minato and Kakashi watched his condition with concern. After the Third Raikage’s delegation arrived following a fight with Sasori, Killer B attacked Shingen at the Raikage’s command, leaving their confrontation poised to begin.
Uchiha Shingen fought Killer B on Three Wolves Peak, enduring the Eight-Tails Jinchūriki’s overwhelming speed and strength before using his Hazy Moon Secret Sword to disrupt Killer B’s rhythm and land a counterattack. The battle shifted toward an even contest, leaving the Third Raikage and the other observers stunned as Killer B struggled to keep the advantage.
Uchiha Shingen’s duel with Killer B escalated when Shingen’s Remnant Flame Sword badly wounded him, but the Third Raikage intervened and stopped the blade. The Third Raikage then declared Shingen a threat and challenged Konoha to sacrifice him for peace with Kumogakure.
Minato rejected the Third Raikage’s demand to hand over Uchiha Shingen, and the Raikage launched an attack that exposed his overwhelming speed, defense, and strength. As Minato fought him and Kumogakure Anbu attacked Uchiha Shingen and Kakashi, Mifune intervened, but the Third Raikage threatened to kill him too.
The Land of Iron joined the battle after the Third Raikage insulted its neutrality, while Uchiha Shingen and Minato struggled to overcome the Raikage’s defenses. The chapter ended with Shingen unleashing a new technique, Remnant Flame Sword-East: Rising Sun Blade, in one last attempt to break through.
Uchiha Shingen used Rising Sun Blade to shatter the Third Raikage’s defenses and grievously wound him, though the technique badly burned Shingen in return. The Eight-Tails then destroyed Three Wolves Peak with a Tailed Beast Ball, and Mifune vowed to expose Kumogakure’s actions and visit Konoha.
After the battle at Three Wolves Peak left the Land of Iron devastated, the Third Raikage ordered Kumogakure to prepare for war against Konoha. Sasori negotiated with Madara over White Zetsu, questioned Madara’s plan to control Uchiha Shingen, and then decided to go to Rōran.
