After arriving at Pilaf's castle, Young Goku pushed open the tightly shut gates, and the group walked inside.
Just like in the original story, as soon as Goku and the others entered, they began to encounter all sorts of traps.
However, thanks to Young Goku and Yamcha's quick reflexes, along with help from Iris, who knew a little martial arts, the group made it through one trap after another.
But just like in the original story, they were eventually trapped in a small chamber formed when a mechanism dropped into place.
At that moment, Mai and Shu immediately left the castle and began searching the car Yamcha had left behind.
"King Pilaf, we searched everywhere, but couldn't find it. It looks like they have the Dragon Balls on them," Mai and Shu reported after finishing their search and returning inside.
"Then we'll bring them over one by one and search them!" Pilaf said at once.
After that, Pilaf and his gang sprang into action. Just like in the original story, they first captured someone and interrogated them.
But, as in the original story, the first person they caught didn't have the Dragon Ball they were looking for, so they let Iris go.
Mai suddenly spoke up. "King Pilaf, interrogating them one by one is too slow. Why don't we release some sleeping gas? Then we can just go in and search them. Wouldn't that be easier?"
Seeing that Mai had a point, Pilaf immediately pressed a button. Yellow gas suddenly began spreading through the place where Goku and the others were trapped.
It didn't take long for Goku and the others to fall asleep after inhaling a large amount of the gas, which contained sleep-inducing particles. They collapsed onto the floor in various sleeping positions.
Soon afterward, Pilaf's gang arrived, and Mai quickly found the last Dragon Ball on Young Goku.
Meanwhile, in the recreation room Zhou Zilong had brought out, Bulma had gotten tired from playing. As she rested, she asked Zhou Zilong, "Zilong, is it really okay for us to keep playing here? We mustn't miss it!"
Feeling that Shenron was due to appear soon, Zhou Zilong replied, "You rest here for a while. I'll go see what's happening."
Bulma nodded. "Okay. Be careful!"
Back at Pilaf's castle, Pilaf had woken up. Since he hadn't worn a mask when he went inside, he had inhaled a little of the gas. Seeing the seven Dragon Balls, he could barely contain his excitement.
After leaving the castle, Zhou Zilong hid in an open area and muttered, "All I have to do is wait here for Pilaf and his gang to show up!"
Back in the stone chamber, Iris woke up and realized that the bag containing the Dragon Balls was gone. She shook Young Goku, who was sleeping beside Yamcha. "Goku, wake up! Your Dragon Balls are gone!"
After being shaken repeatedly, Young Goku finally opened his eyes as Iris raised her voice. "You're so noisy," he said.
"Phew... phew... phew!" Yamcha woke up beside them, darted off to one side, and began panting heavily.
As Iris had been shaking Young Goku, Yamcha had opened his eyes and glanced over. What he saw was a sight he would never forget, and his heart had immediately begun racing.
Once they had calmed down and looked around, they noticed that the door to the stone chamber they'd been trapped in was open. Young Goku and the others began searching for a way out.
At a bend in the passage, Young Goku and the others ran into Pilaf's gang. Knowing that they couldn't take them in a direct fight, Pilaf immediately turned and ran with Mai and Shu into the room they had come from.
Young Goku and the others reached a fork in the passage and were trying to decide which way to go when a gigantic iron ball suddenly came hurtling toward them.
Under the iron ball's relentless attack, Young Goku and the others were forced back into the stone chamber and trapped inside again.
Only after confirming that Young Goku and the others couldn't get out did Pilaf send Mai and Shu outside with the seven Dragon Balls, to an open area.
"Goku, why not try your Kamehameha?" After another unsuccessful attempt to escape the stone chamber, Yamcha said to Young Goku.
Young Goku agreed, then asked, "Okay, no problem. But how did you know I could do the Kamehameha?"
Yamcha replied, "Earlier, I secretly followed you because I wanted to make a wish before you could, once you found the Dragon Balls. So I saw you learn that move!"
Young Goku was simple-minded and didn't take it personally. He immediately assumed the Kamehameha stance. "Ka... me... ha... me... ha!" Energy began gathering in his hands.
With a "pong," Young Goku's Kamehameha struck the wall with a loud bang. But, just like in the original story, it only made a small hole in the wall.
Yamcha leaned close to his companion Puar and whispered, "Puar, hurry and transform into a small flying animal. Get out and make that wish for me!"
"Po!" Puar nodded, then immediately transformed into a little bat and flew out through the hole.
On the other side, when Zhou Zilong still hadn't shown up, Oolong—who had plans of his own—also flew outside at once.
"Come forth, Shenron!" In the open area, Pilaf chanted the words to summon Shenron as the seven Dragon Balls began to glow.
In an instant, the sky, which had already begun to darken, filled with thick black clouds.
The seven Dragon Balls immediately turned into a streak of yellow light and shot up into the sky. A dragon-shaped creature could already be seen taking form.
When the light faded, a dragon with red-glowing eyes and a body of green and pale yellow appeared, stretched across the sky. Hidden nearby, Zhou Zilong watched and realized that Shenron had appeared.
Shenron looked down at Pilaf and spoke his famous words. "State your wish. No matter what it is, I can grant it—but only one."
Only after being awestruck by Shenron did Pilaf finally react. Excited, he began, "Then... then I'll tell you my wish!"
A voice rang out beside Pilaf. "Your wish is useless. Save it for another time. I'll make a wish this time!"
