Background

Toneri was discovered as a child alone in a boat and taken in by the Rain Clan. Believing her to be a child from their forgotten homeland, the clan raised her to complete a destined pilgrimage. Sixteen years later, her low Mana and inability to use Mystery made the clan fear for her survival, particularly as the Fang Clan threatened the Rain Clan for sheltering a Paradise Fairy. 117

When Toneri's home came under attack, the Rain Clan Chief sent her into the forest, ordering her not to look back. Injured during her escape, she encountered Michael, whose Fairy-like aura and extraordinary Mana immediately put her on guard. Michael healed her wounds, but had altered her memories by layering false memories over real ones; Toneri later learns that he had concealed their hostile first meeting and presented himself as her rescuer. 117 190

She returned to the ruins of Oakney and found her home deserted, her family and clan having died while protecting her escape. Rather than remain in grief, she chose to undertake her pilgrimage, save Britain, and establish a Fairy Kingdom. The Pilgrimage Bell released the first of her six seals, and she asked Michael to teach her Magecraft. 119

After completing her pilgrimage, Toneri revealed that “Toneri” is a pseudonym and that her true name is Morgan. She then undertook the remaking of Britain, using a summoning ritual to restore Fairies lost in the Great Calamity; Michael modified the ritual to lower its continuing Mana cost and restrain future betrayals. 190

Appearance

Toneri is a slender Fairy maiden with emerald Fairy Eyes and a noticeable ahoge. She bears a Fairy Mark on the back of her right hand and is commonly seen carrying the Staff of Selection. 131 132 136

Personality

Toneri is compassionate, determined, and unwilling to abandon people in danger. She ignores Apocryphus's warning about Darlington because its people need warning of an approaching Moss Cluster, and she seeks a Britain in which humans and Fairies can live together. 132 179

Despite her role as a savior, she has a playful and occasionally theatrical side. She jokingly assumes the manner of a merciless Fairy Queen while interrogating Apocryphus, only to lose her intimidating composure when he points out that she is holding up the wrong number of fingers. 131

Her compassion is not effortless. She becomes furious when she sees the abuse of Rain Clan prisoners, but the Staff of Selection resists her when she tries to use it for intentional harm, forcing her to confront the limits imposed by her mission. 144
