On the plain, two young figures faced off, both radiating powerful auras.
Son Goku and Li Feng took fighting stances, carefully searching for openings.
"Tap!"
A stone drifting down on the breeze became the signal for the battle to begin.
"Ha!" Goku struck first. His figure flashed, and in an instant he was right in front of Li Feng.
Li Feng could clearly see Goku's movements and calmly blocked with his right hand.
"Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap!" Goku's attacks grew more and more fierce, his fists hammering at Li Feng like machine guns.
Li Feng checked Goku's current power level: 800.
As expected, just like in the original, Goku didn't like using his full strength at the start.
Although Li Feng's own power level was as high as 3,000, he couldn't just bully someone weaker than himself. Besides, this was a sparring match—a great opportunity to hone his martial arts.
As they continued testing each other, Li Feng raised his power level to around 800 as well. But with less combat experience, he still found himself at a disadvantage.
"Hey!" Goku left an opening. When Li Feng attacked, Goku's figure turned indistinct, then appeared behind him. He kicked Li Feng flying.
"What kind of move is that?"
Li Feng put some distance between them and asked in surprise.
"Hehe, it's the Afterimage Strike! It took me ages to figure it out!" Goku said proudly, rubbing his nose.
"Oh? Interesting! Do it a few more times so I can see!"
Li Feng wanted to learn the technique.
"It's not that easy to learn! Watch closely!"
"Whoosh!" Goku's figure appeared in front of Li Feng again, then turned indistinct. His real attack came from above.
"Thud!" Li Feng took the blow with his sturdy body.
This time, Li Feng didn't rely solely on his eyesight. He used his ki sense as well.
His eyes could indeed see Goku's figure in front of him, along with some of his ki. But the ki he actually sensed wasn't in front of him—it was above!
"Again!" Li Feng had already grasped the principle behind the Afterimage Strike. A few more tries, and he should be able to pull it off himself.
"Hahaha! Here I come!" Goku was just as excited.
"Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!"
The two continued trading blows, the force of their punches roiling through the air and kicking up clouds of dust.
If a Scouter had been there to measure their power levels, it would have shown both of them rising steadily.
From 800 to 850 to 900...
"I get it now!"
Li Feng understood the principle behind the Afterimage Strike.
The Afterimage Strike was really just another application of ki.
At the moment of attacking, you split off part of your ki to leave an afterimage, then move rapidly to another position. That makes it look as though you've suddenly appeared somewhere else.
Now that he understood how it worked, Li Feng tried using it himself.
"Ha!" Goku used the Afterimage Strike again, his right fist shooting straight toward Li Feng's chest.
Li Feng already knew it was Goku's Afterimage Strike, so he used some of his own ki to create an afterimage.
As Li Feng's afterimage struck Goku's, Goku's real figure appeared behind Li Feng and drove his right elbow toward Li Feng's back.
Goku expected to hit Li Feng just as he had before. But it turned out to be only Li Feng's afterimage, and his attack hit nothing but empty air. A moment later, a powerful blow slammed into his back, sending him crashing into a small mountain.
Li Feng's real body had appeared behind Goku—and he had managed to fool him!
"You learned it that quickly? You're incredible!" Goku said in amazement.
"Again!"
Li Feng was eager to get more practice with the Afterimage Strike.
He had a system, and his power level would keep climbing, but his real combat experience and fighting skills were still sorely lacking. He needed to work hard and sharpen them.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
The two figures moved faster and faster, the sound of them cutting through the air growing louder. Before long, they were impossible to make out, surrounded by afterimages!
Before he knew it, Li Feng had taken control of the rhythm of the fight. During one burst of speed, Goku failed to react in time and was hit again.
"Thud!"
A human-shaped crater appeared in the ground.
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Goku emerged from the crater, covered in dust.
Goku found it strange. At first, he'd thought Li Feng was a peerless master, but Li Feng was far behind him in fighting techniques and real combat experience. His movements were clumsy.
What amazed Goku even more was Li Feng's incredible talent for martial arts. He could grasp the principles behind most of Goku's moves after seeing them just once, and after a few more tries, he had learned them.
The fight had gone from Goku suppressing Li Feng at the start, to the two being evenly matched, to Li Feng eventually getting the upper hand!
Of course, both of their power levels had stayed around 900. Li Feng hadn't been overpowering Goku with brute strength.
"Good. In that case!"
Goku made up his mind. They had tested each other with hand-to-hand combat; now it was time to move on to ki attacks.
"Ha! Ha! Ha!"
Goku planted his right hand on the ground and sprang into the air. With his left hand, he fired several yellow energy blasts at Li Feng.
Li Feng's ki sense was exceptionally sharp. The moment he saw Goku attack with Ki Blasts, he dodged.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Three more craters appeared in the ground.
Goku used the Flight Technique to rise into the air again. Energy spheres gathered in both hands, and he unleashed the Prince Trick, raining blasts from his hands like machine-gun fire!
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
At first, Li Feng only dodged. But when the blasts covered too wide an area, he had no choice but to take them head-on.
Seeing Li Feng seemingly at a loss, Goku sped up his Ki Blasts again, hoping to knock him down once and for all.
Once he got used to the rhythm, Li Feng stopped being passive and shifted from defense to a stalemate.
At first, he blocked with both arms. Then he started batting away the excess blasts with his hands. Before long, he was firing white Ki Blasts of his own!
As ki flowed and gathered in his hands, Li Feng grew more and more adept at using it. He fired more and more blasts, and they moved faster and faster!
The battle had started with one-sided yellow flashes, like a machine gun. Then white sparks began to flicker. Before long, white blasts were filling the sky!
Goku was amazed once again by Li Feng's talent for martial arts!
With a flash, Goku broke away from the battlefield and flew higher.
"Kame!"
Goku stopped using ordinary blasts and began preparing a Kamehameha.
"Ha!"
Seeing this, Li Feng cupped his hands at his waist and began gathering ki for a Kamehameha as well.
"Me!"
One figure in the sky and one on the ground gathered vast amounts of energy.
"Ha!"
Two brilliant blue beams burst forth!
In an instant, the night lit up!
"Me!"
The two beams collided, forming a blue ball of energy at the center. The power it gave off made the air tremble!
"Boom!"
"Ha!"
Goku was sweating as he increased his output.
This was his first time clashing beams with someone from the Son family, but he wasn't going to lose!
A stronger surge of ki burst from Li Feng's hands, and his blue beam grew thicker!
"Push through!"
Goku shouted and gave it everything he had!
The Kamehameha in the sky suddenly surged down toward the ground!
"Fight back!"
Li Feng shouted too, unleashing his ki!
"Boom!"
Even though Goku's power level was already as high as 1,500, Li Feng's ki reached 3,000 when he went all out!
Li Feng's energy was still stronger!
His Kamehameha pushed back, striking Goku directly!
"Boom!"
A tremendous explosion rang out, and the figure in the sky fell limply!
