As the saying went, when love rivals met, sparks flew.
So the moment they saw each other, neither gave the other a friendly look.
But Sun Wukong was standing right beside them. Wanting to make a good impression on him, they both managed to smile.
"Goku, who is this?"
"This is Chi-Chi!"
"Chi-Chi!"
Bulma was surprised.
She remembered Chi-Chi as a chubby little girl. She hadn't expected her to grow up so pretty. Her taste in clothes... was still the same as before, though.
"It's been a long time, big sister Bulma!"
Chi-Chi greeted Bulma with a smile.
"She called me big sister. Is she saying I'm older than Goku?"
Bulma wondered silently.
"It's been a long time. If Goku hadn't told me you were Chi-Chi, I wouldn't have recognized you!"
"Really?"
Chi-Chi smiled faintly.
"By the way, Chi-Chi, weren't you at Fried Bread Mountain? What brings you to West City?"
"Well..."
Chi-Chi was just about to answer.
Suddenly, Chi-Chi spoke up on Goku's behalf.
"Chi-Chi left home after a falling-out with her family!"
"Left home?"
Bulma glanced at Chi-Chi.
"Is that true, Chi-Chi?"
Chi-Chi looked at Sun Wukong and nodded.
"Then why did you come back with Goku?"
"My father asked Master Mutaito for help. Master Mutaito called Goku and asked him to come find me!"
"Really? In that case, Goku, why don't you take her back to Fried Bread Mountain?"
Sun Wukong looked at Chi-Chi.
"No, I won't go back!"
Chi-Chi wrapped both arms around Sun Wukong's arm.
Seeing this, Bulma was instantly overcome with jealousy.
She immediately wrapped both arms around Sun Wukong's other arm.
"Uh..."
Sun Wukong froze.
They were just talking. Why had they suddenly started grabbing him?
Chi-Chi glared at Bulma, her face instantly full of anger.
Bulma met her gaze without backing down.
"Um..."
Noticing the tension in the air, Sun Wukong was about to ask them to let go when Chi-Chi suddenly gave a hard tug, pulling him to the left.
"Damn it!"
Bulma fumed inwardly and immediately yanked Sun Wukong to the right.
Sun Wukong leaned sharply to the right.
But Chi-Chi quickly pulled him back again.
"Whoosh..."
Bulma put all her strength into pulling Sun Wukong back to her.
Just as Chi-Chi was about to pull Sun Wukong back, she realized she couldn't budge him no matter how hard she tugged.
She looked up and saw Sun Wukong staring at her.
"G-Goku!"
Sun Wukong glanced at Bulma, too.
"Will you two let go already?"
Bulma gave a snort and released his arm.
Chi-Chi had no choice but to let go as well.
Just as Sun Wukong was getting a headache over the two of them, Dr. Brief came over from the distance, having finished his work.
"Dr. Brief!"
Dr. Brief nodded, then looked at Chi-Chi.
"Goku, who is this?"
"She's Chi-Chi, the daughter of my grandfather's junior fellow student."
"Oh, is that so?"
Dr. Brief smiled at Chi-Chi.
"Hello, I'm Bulma's father! Welcome to our home!"
As he spoke, Dr. Brief turned to Bulma.
"Bulma, make sure you treat Goku's friend well!"
Bulma looked at Dr. Brief with displeasure.
She couldn't tell whether Dr. Brief genuinely didn't know or was pretending not to. Chi-Chi was about the same age as Sun Wukong, and she was obviously Bulma's love rival.
And yet he was asking her to treat her love rival well!
"Then, Goku, you two have a nice chat!"
"Okay!"
With that, Dr. Brief headed inside.
After Dr. Brief left, Bulma gradually calmed down.
This was her home, her territory. How could she lose to some little outsider here?
At the thought, a smile immediately appeared on Bulma's face.
"So, Chi-Chi, if you're not going home, where are you going to stay?"
Chi-Chi couldn't answer at first.
When she'd come here, all she'd thought about was being with Sun Wukong.
She hadn't thought about anything else.
"Goku!"
Chi-Chi looked at Sun Wukong.
"Chi-Chi, why don't you stay here for a few days, then go home? Your father must be worried about you."
Chi-Chi looked at Sun Wukong, then at Bulma, and nodded.
"You're still too green to compete with me!"
Bulma couldn't help feeling smug.
"By the way, Goku, I just made a cake. Can you try it and tell me if it's good?"
"Sure!"
After speaking, Bulma hurried inside to get the cake.
While Bulma was inside, Chi-Chi suddenly looked at Sun Wukong, blushing.
"G-Goku!"
"What is it?"
"G-Goku, I like you. I've liked you ever since we first met. C-could you be my boyfriend?"
"I... don't really have that on my mind right now!"
"You don't?"
"Right now, I just want to train!"
"I don't believe you. You must like Bulma!"
Just then, Bulma came out carrying the cake she'd made and set it on the table in the yard.
She cut off a piece with a long knife, placed it on a plate, and offered it to Sun Wukong.
"Here, Goku. Try the cake and see what you think!"
"Sure!"
Sun Wukong speared a piece of cake with his fork and took a bite.
"This cake is pretty good!"
"Really? Then I'll make it for you every day from now on!"
Chi-Chi snorted.
"What's so great about cake? Goku, I'll make you a whole tableful of dishes this afternoon!"
Bulma's anger immediately flared at that.
"You're not the only one who can cook! I'll make Goku a whole tableful of dishes this afternoon, too!"
"..."
Seeing the two of them start arguing again, Sun Wukong immediately felt a headache coming on.
After the two of them had argued for a while, Sun Wukong couldn't take it anymore and went to the Gravity Room to train.
Of the thirty-six stratagems, running away was the best.
That afternoon, Chi-Chi and Bulma really did compete at cooking, spurred on by their earlier argument over the cake.
Bulma knew how to cook, but she still couldn't compare with Chi-Chi, who had studied cooking for several years.
At five in the afternoon, they finished cooking and called Sun Wukong over to taste their dishes.
Sun Wukong sampled both of their dishes.
"Well, Goku?"
Chi-Chi asked.
"Pretty good!"
"What about mine?"
"Yours is... pretty good, too!"
Chi-Chi: "So which of us made the tastier food?"
"Th-they're the same!"
"Hmm!"
The two of them stared at him.
"No, you have to pick one!"
"..."
"Look, a flying saucer!"
Sun Wukong pointed ahead.
The two of them kept their eyes on him.
"Answer us!"
"Whoosh..."
Sun Wukong vanished with Instant Transmission.
"Damn it!"
Seeing that Sun Wukong had run away, the two of them immediately grew angry.
North Kai's Planet.
North Kai was reclining leisurely in a chair when a figure suddenly appeared.
It was Sun Wukong.
