Background / History

Vegeta first arrived on Earth with Nappa as the Saiyan prince. Sun Wukong's strength and Raditz's rapid growth shattered his belief that birth rank determined a warrior's worth. Though he recognized that he had neglected ki control, Vegeta refused to remain with the Earth group and departed in his spaceship. 34 35 36

After wandering the universe and increasing his base combat power to 500,000, Vegeta attacked the Kurd Army headquarters to avenge Planet Vegeta. He devastated the army and defeated Kurd, but Ginyu—occupying Frieza's body—overpowered him. Unable to become a Super Saiyan, Vegeta was killed by Ginyu's Death Beam. 64 65

Sentenced to the Blood Pool in the afterlife, Vegeta was retrieved by Son Gohan and brought to King Kai's Planet. He accepted King Kai's training despite King Kai's objections to his past, was revived through Dende's wishes, and resumed wandering the universe. 74 75

Son Gohan later sought Vegeta out for a spar. Vegeta revealed that he had mastered the tenfold King Kai Fist, then achieved Super Saiyan during their battle. Although Gohan outclassed him, he saved Vegeta from the recoil of Final Flash and explained the paths beyond Super Saiyan. 75 76
