Background / History

The Angel race was the first race created by the Time King and originally served as Zeno's divine servants. Angels later became the attendants and overseers assigned to Gods of Destruction. Whis is the Angel assigned to the Seventh Universe. 88 112

Whis is the son of the Grand Priest and the younger brother of Vados and Merus. He was also close to his older brother Krus, the Angel of the erased Thirteenth Universe; Krus's death is a major reason Whis wishes to take part in a future counterattack against the Demon Realm. 42 189 211

He has served Beerus for an immense span of time. Although Beerus's death in Future Trunks' timeline deeply grieves him, Whis quickly helps prepare the search for the Super Dragon Balls after learning that Beerus may be revived. 253

Personality

Whis presents himself as calm, refined, teasing, and intensely interested in Earth food. He readily accepts gifts of ramen, conjures snacks while watching battles, and uses food as leverage during conversations. 112 183

When Gohan arrives early on Beerus' Planet seeking godhood, Whis explains the current divine hierarchy and agrees to help elevate Gohan's life level. After examining Gohan's Mystic Form and Rule of Death, he accepts Gohan as a disciple. 112 113

Whis later explains the distinction between divine ki and divine power, approves of Gohan's decision to continue both the Super Saiyan and Mystic Form paths, and guides him toward a more stable foundation. 130

Ultra Instinct Training

After Gohan displays an instinctive combat response resembling Ultra Instinct, Whis agrees to teach him the divine technique. Gohan subsequently spars with Whis for several days without landing a hit until Whis is briefly distracted by Black Water Star's destruction. 160 162
