Background / History

In Era 737, Frieza succeeded his father’s army, renamed it the Frieza Army, and destroyed Planet Vegeta in the same year. His force built its power through planetary trade: conquering worlds, displacing or exterminating their inhabitants, then selling the planets back to surviving aliens. He became feared as the strongest existence in the North Galaxy and ranked second on a galactic wanted list. 17 43

Frieza traveled to Namek seeking immortality through the Dragon Balls. He dispatched Dodoria and Zarbon to gather the Dragon Balls, but both were killed by Raditz. After confronting the Saiyans personally, Frieza fought Raditz and Sun Wukong, transforming repeatedly as the battle escalated. Cooler's arrival turned the conflict into a struggle between the brothers as both pursued the Dragon Balls. 46 47 50

Frieza released his full 120-million battle power against Son Gohan and Cooler, but Gohan used their combined attack as cover to fake his death. Believing Gohan dead, Sun Wukong transformed into a Super Saiyan and overwhelmed Frieza and Cooler. Frieza was left mutilated, with only his upper body and one arm remaining. 55 56 58

While Frieza recovered in a healing pod, Captain Ginyu betrayed him with the Change technique. Ginyu took Frieza’s body, while Frieza died in Ginyu’s body. Frieza’s soul subsequently rebelled against King Yama in the Underworld, only for Son Gohan to knock him unconscious and have him sealed in Heaven for purification. 58 63

Sorbet later revived Frieza through Shenron’s wishes. Frieza resumed training immediately, using Tagoma as a sparring partner and unlocking Golden Frieza within two months. However, he recognized that he remained far weaker than Son Gohan and did not immediately seek revenge on Earth. 239 240

He enjoys combat more than he initially admits. During his first battle with Sun Wukong, Frieza becomes excited by facing a genuine opponent; later, he openly allows Dyspo to strike him because pain and pressure remind him of growth. Defeat does not diminish Frieza’s ambition. Learning of the twelve universes expands his goal from ruling the Seventh Universe to extending his influence across all universes.
