Background / History

Beerus awakens in the God of Destruction Realm after sleeping for 39 years. A dream about a Super Saiyan God prompts him to ask Whis to locate such a warrior; Whis instead shows him footage of Ye Ming and Vegito's battle from three years earlier. Beerus finds Ye Ming promising despite considering both fighters mortals rather than gods. 7

Accompanied by Whis, Beerus travels to Earth in search of the Super Saiyan God, destroying dozens of planets along the route as part of his role. He arrives at Bulma's birthday party, accepts the group's hospitality and Earth's food, but receives no answer about the Super Saiyan God. 7 8

When Son Goku challenges him, Beerus effortlessly defeats Goku's Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 forms. He then accepts Ye Ming's challenge, initially threatening Earth should Ye Ming prove unworthy. 8 9

Ye Ming forces Beerus to take the fight seriously, eventually drawing out his full power, Hakai Energy, and imperfect Ultra Instinct. Their final clash nearly destroys the universe until Whis reverses time; both exhausted fighters accept Whis's ruling of a draw.
