Background / History

Frieza initially regards Mu Chuan as an insignificant Saiyan with too little combat power to merit personal attention. After Mu Chuan kills personnel aboard his ship and damages an energy chamber, Frieza chooses to keep him alive as forced labor because he is a Saiyan. 2

As unrest grows on Planet Vegeta, Frieza becomes increasingly wary of the Saiyans and the Frost Demon legend of a Legendary Super Saiyan—the race's natural enemy. He travels to the planet, uses Mu Chuan to organize Saiyan forces under his authority, and orders him to secure the submission of all Saiyans. 7 8 11

When the Saiyans rebel under an artificial moon, Frieza easily defeats Great Ape King Vegeta and destroys Planet Vegeta. He spares Mu Chuan's wandering squad only to continue exploiting them as mercenaries and border guards. 13 15

The destruction of Cooler's Armored Squadron by Mu Chuan's Saiyans brings Cooler to Frieza's territory. Frieza's attempt to mock his brother escalates into a one-sided beating: trapped in his weak form and unable to control his full strength quickly enough, Frieza is humiliated even after transforming to his fourth form. The defeat drives him into seclusion with a single goal—to train, surpass Cooler, and repay the humiliation. 30 31

After months of training, Frieza emerges able to maintain his final form and with greatly increased power. Believing Mu Chuan's rapid growth may produce the Legendary Super Saiyan, he orders a galaxy-wide search for the remaining Saiyans; the operation devastates planets and kills countless beings. 38 39

Mu Chuan eventually provokes Frieza into a direct confrontation. Frieza recognizes Mu Chuan's Super Saiyan transformation as real, escalates to his full power and then his 100% Power form, but remains outmatched. Frieza is commonly seen seated in a small hoverchair, with his tail visibly moving behind him. Despite his arrogance, Frieza is not entirely reckless. The possibility of a Super Saiyan makes him suspicious of the Saiyans' potential, and he eventually concludes that they must be exterminated before they can become a genuine threat. 7 30 38

Cooler's defeat changes Frieza's priorities. Humiliation makes him abandon immediate concerns of universal rule in favor of training and revenge; afterward, he approaches Mu Chuan with more caution than before, though his pride still prevents him from accepting recruitment or submission. 31 43 47
