Reke's tail stiffened, his consciousness gradually blurring.
The fur on his body grew longer and longer, and his eyes were completely overtaken by red.
His physical size expanded rapidly.
In no time at all, he transformed from a small, four-foot-tall figure into a three-hundred-foot-tall brown Giant Ape.
"ROAR!"
The Giant Ape pounded his chest with both fists, letting out a thunderous bellow.
An unconscious rampage began.
The Giant Ape spotted a group of beasts resting in the distance; before they could even react, he leaped before them and smashed down with a single punch.
The group of beasts vanished instantly, leaving not even a scrap of flesh behind.
After finishing the kill, the Giant Ape continued to search for his next target.
Usually, the moment he locked onto a target, the Giant Ape completed the kill.
The Giant Ape's roar startled the entire grassland, including the Rock Monsters on the periphery and the creatures on the other side.
The other side of the grassland was not home to monsters or beasts, but a group of sentient beings.
This was an adventure party exploring the plains.
They were similar in size to normal humans, though some possessed four ears, some had a pair of wings, and others had two pairs of eyes.
They were resting by a lake over a hundred miles away from the grassland.
Reke's roar jolted them all awake.
"Boss, what was that sound?" a slim female with a pair of wings and a height of about five-foot-six asked a burly man with two pairs of eyes and a height of about six feet.
"Ah!"
Before the party leader could reply, one of the thin men with four ears let out a miserable shriek.
His eardrums had been instantly ruptured; bright red blood flowed from his four ears as he rolled on the ground, clutching his head.
"Fifth, what's wrong with you?"
"Fifth Brother, don't scare me like this."
"Third Sister, hurry and get the medicine!"
The group began shouting over one another.
The entire scene descended into chaos, the clamor making it impossible to hear anyone.
The leader finally couldn't stand it any longer; his face darkened, and he roared, "Quiet! Everyone, be silent!"
The scene fell silent instantly, save for the Fifth still wailing on the ground.
Pairs of eyes turned to the leader, waiting for his orders.
It was clear that the leader held significant authority in this party and was trusted by the others.
The leader looked at the Fifth and immediately discerned his condition.
Because his hearing was too acute, he had been injured by the shockwave of that roar.
"Third Sister, go get the medicine."
"Second, go activate the sound-dampening barrier."
"Fourth, Sixth, once your Third Sister finishes applying the medicine to the Fifth, help him into the tent to rest."
"Everyone else, spread out; don't block the way."
As the leader issued his commands one by one, the situation improved immediately.
Those who received orders moved into action, while those who didn't stood far off to the side.
Only after issuing his orders did the leader answer the question from the winged female: "Eighth Sister, I'm not sure what's going on yet. Here, bring the energy detector over first."
"Understood." Eighth Sister did not hesitate and immediately moved to comply.
By the time she brought the instrument to the center of the crowd, the Second had already activated the sound-dampening barrier, the Third had finished applying medicine to the Fifth, and the Fourth had returned, leaving the Sixth to watch over the Fifth.
"Boss, should I turn on the energy detector now?" Eighth Sister asked, standing before the seven-foot-tall instrument.
"Turn it on. Let's see the energy readings within a thousand-mile radius."
"Beep!"
The group crowded around, staring at the energy readings in confusion.
"Do you not notice anything wrong?"
The burly man said with a grave expression.
The group shook their heads, until finally, Eighth Sister stared at the instrument and realized what was amiss.
"Boss, are you trying to say that all the creatures within a thousand miles are moving, and they are all moving toward the outside of the grassland?"
"Eighth Sister is observant as always. That is exactly what I meant."
"There are no massive energy signatures within a thousand miles, yet all other creatures are fleeing. This indicates that a terrifying entity is located in that direction," the leader said, pointing toward the location of Reke.
"It is a pity that our equipment can only detect up to a thousand miles. We have no way of knowing how far away that roar actually was."
"Boss, Fifth Brother has woken up. He is calling for you."
Just then, Sixth Brother, who had been tending to Fifth Brother in the tent, ran out and shouted.
The leader did not delay and walked straight into the tent.
He found that although Fifth Brother's wounds had healed, his complexion was ghastly, and he appeared utterly listless.
"Fifth Brother, do you have something to say?" the leader asked, sitting by the bedside.
"Boss, are you trying to track the location of that roar from earlier?" Fifth Brother asked instead of answering.
"Yes. It is a pity we could not detect it; otherwise, I would truly want to see what kind of creature wounded you like this," the leader said, his face full of regret.
"Don't! You must not go!" Fifth Brother's entire body trembled upon hearing this. He knew the leader would want to pursue that roar, and he was relieved he had regained enough consciousness to call him in.
He felt a surge of relief, grateful that he hadn't remained unconscious for long and had woken up in time.
"What of it? Isn't that how we have always operated? Exploring unknown creatures." As he spoke, the leader's eyes began to glow with fanatical fervor, filled with an insatiable desire to investigate the unknown.
"It is different this time. It is truly different," Fifth Brother said with a bitter smile.
Seeing the leader about to speak again, he reached out to stop him and continued, "Boss, do you know how far away that roar was? It was at least ten thousand miles away."
"Think about it: a roar from ten thousand miles away crippled me. I am certain that with my current energy signature of 500 points, I wouldn't even be able to get within a thousand miles of it."
"To go in there is to die—one hundred percent. There is no chance of survival; it is certain death!"
"Do you know what I sensed from that roar?"
"You cannot possibly fathom the terror I feel right now. Honestly, I feel lucky just to be alive."
The more Fifth Brother spoke, the more agitated he became. His body shook uncontrollably, and his pupils dilated as if he were seeing a monster.
Finally, Fifth Brother forced himself to raise a trembling finger, his face filled with despair as he said, "One strike. That creature could destroy this entire planet with a single strike."
As soon as he finished speaking, Fifth Brother could no longer hold himself up and collapsed onto the bed.
The leader's eyes widened, his expression one of utter disbelief.
Back on Reke's side.
The creatures within a thousand-mile radius had already been wiped out by him, and he was currently brewing an energy cannon in his mouth, aimed directly at the ground.
Reke subconsciously sensed a crisis.
He began to struggle.
Influenced by him, the Giant Ape slowly dissipated the energy cannon.
It stood motionless in place.
Reke, however, had not regained consciousness and remained lost in his trance.
Time ticked by, second by second. Creatures within a twenty-thousand-mile radius felt as though this night was passing far too slowly.
None dared to make a sound, gazing toward the position of the Giant Ape as if awaiting judgment.
Even the Rock Monsters were the same; they should have been in deep slumber, but they had been awakened by Reke's roar.
Sensing a massive threat, they wanted to resist but dared not.
They waited until the moonlight vanished and the sunlight appeared.
Only then did the heavy atmosphere in the air dissipate, leaving countless creatures lying on the ground, unwilling to move.
As the moon vanished, Reke's body slowly shrank, his fur gradually receding back into his pores, and his consciousness slowly returned.
Looking at the countless massive craters surrounding him, he felt incredibly fortunate that he hadn't fired an energy cannon at the ground while he was out of control yesterday.
Otherwise, he would be a goner by now.
He did not know that, in reality, he had saved his own life.
