Bei Bei was regarded as a talented Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon soul master, possessing level-nine innate soul power. However, after reaching level thirty, he allowed his cultivation to slow while devoting much of his time and attention to Tang Ya, whom he felt responsible for helping after she became homeless. 1

His younger brother, You Jie, repeatedly criticized this neglect and warned that Bei Bei was losing the cultivation advantage that once separated them. The subject of Zhang Lexuan was particularly painful for Bei Bei; when You Jie raised their past connection, Bei Bei reacted with visible anguish and abruptly ended the conversation. 1

Bei Bei accepted You Jie's challenge after You Jie became a Soul Elder. Confident in his level 36 soul power, dragonized right arm, Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon martial soul, and Tang Sect techniques, he believed victory was assured. You Jie instead overwhelmed him with his summons and severely injured him, requiring treatment from a Soul Saint healer. Mu En subsequently ordered Bei Bei to reach level 40 before the next school year. 4 5

Following the defeat, Bei Bei resumed serious cultivation. He also underwent the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon lineage's body-training method alongside You Jie, improving both his physical strength and soul-power growth. During this period, he realized that he should have begun using the method after obtaining his third soul ring. 6 8

Bei Bei later began practicing the Purple Demon Eye, but only around the time he received the ancestral body-training method. His insufficient mental cultivation contributed to him being incapacitated by the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm's spiritual fluctuations in the Star Dou Great Forest. 10 11

Tang Ya's decision to return to Shrek Academy and cultivate after the destruction of the Iron Blood Sect prompted Bei Bei to reassess his own goals. Learning that Yu Tianlong—roughly his age and also a Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon wielder—had reached level 47 further intensified his sense of crisis.
