Background / History

Lin Yueru is Lin Tiannan's daughter and the eldest miss of Lin Family Fort. Raised in a martial-arts household, she inherited the family's Sword-Finger Twin Arts and trained from childhood in swordsmanship, archery, and horsemanship. By age thirteen, no young man in Suzhou City could defeat her. 8 9

Her repeated victories made her standards exceptionally high: she considers men unable to defeat a woman to be useless. Lin Tiannan's martial contests to select a live-in son-in-law repeatedly ended with prospective husbands being defeated by her. 8

Despite her willfulness, Lin Yueru is kind-hearted. She treats her four personal maids—Chunlan, Xiazhu, Qiuju, and Dongmei—like sisters. 8

Lin Yueru arrives during Gao Xu's confrontation with Tang Mei'er after learning that evil people had infiltrated Lin Family Fort's demon-extermination party. She condemns Tang Mei'er for threatening her family's reputation, restrains her with the Benhui Art, then cripples her with Sword Qi Finger before delivering the final blow. 21

Lin Yueru's Wager

After saving Lin Tiannan from the Snake Demon's lair, Lin Yueru proposes a wagered one-on-one duel with Gao Xu: if he defeats her, Lin Tiannan must wait for the Snake Demon to recover before sending him to the Demon Locking Tower. 25

Although she dominates the opening exchanges through superior strength and technique, Gao Xu disrupts her One Yang Finger, counters Ten Thousand Miles of Wild Sand with Howling Gale, and wins when Lin Tiannan intervenes to prevent a potentially lethal final strike. Her favorability toward Gao Xu rises to 50. 26 27 28

Journey for Su Mei's Medicine

Lin Yueru follows Gao Xu and the rescued girls to Baihe Village, claiming she is protecting him. She then joins his search for rare medicinal ingredients needed to save Su Mei, eagerly embracing the chance to fight monsters and travel beyond Suzhou. 28 29

At Ghost Yin Mountain, she initiates a second contest with Gao Xu to determine who can personally kill more Miao warriors. Though Gao Xu technically wins when Tai Zhuonan dies a fraction of a moment before her One Yang Finger lands, she accepts the result and her favorability rises to 75. 30 32 33

Jade Buddha Temple and Heishui Town

Lin Yueru cooperates with Gao Xu to infiltrate Jade Buddha Temple, subduing and carrying out an unconscious monk for their plan. 33 In Heishui Town, her readiness to draw the Yuenü Sword against the Giant's group deters five hostile reincarnators from attacking Gao Xu. 36

Parting with Gao Xu

After Su Mei is healed, Lin Yueru returns toward Suzhou with Gao Xu and Su Mei. She forms an affectionate bond with Su Mei, then shyly gives Gao Xu an invitation to Lin Family Fort's martial arts tournament and tells him not to let her down if he comes. 39
