Background & History

The Panel first manifests before Zhao Cheng after he enters Quietude. Its initial display identifies it as “Panel” and shows that he possesses no Source Points, a damaged Red-grade Sword Seed, attributes exceeding ordinary baseline values, Basic Swordsmanship, a Simulation Count of zero, and an empty Shop. Zhao Cheng immediately understands it as the manifestation of certain aspects of his own traits rather than an external artifact. 8

Early on, Zhao Cheng determines that the Panel is not an artificial intelligence and contains no artifact spirit. It can provide intelligent responses within the bounds of what he can perceive, but becomes “clumsy” beyond his cognition. 11 Its Log later reveals that Source Points are generated by actions with a positive effect on Zhao Cheng himself, while the Shop functions through equivalent exchange. 16

After Zhao Cheng chooses an instance, the Panel deploys a Hyper-Dimensional Body, selects a spacetime beacon, and provides Trait Modules for him to equip. Instance compatibility affects the recommendations, but the final choice remains Zhao Cheng’s. 18 Its instance information is not fully reliable: it can omit crucial world details, including apocalyptic conditions that Zhao Cheng discovers only after descending. 22 23

As Zhao Cheng grows stronger, he increasingly studies the Panel’s operational rules. He concludes that its descent process uses predetermined spacetime anchors and karmic nexuses rather than active intelligence; even when an arrival point no longer suits his overwhelming strength, the established anchor remains fixed. 798 799 885

Much later, Zhao Cheng realizes that the Panel’s apparent externality was misleading. Every part he can observe belongs to himself, while its interface is merely a form comprehensible to him. Had his concepts been different, the same power might have appeared as an artifact or Dao rather than a stat window. 1523
