Background

At its technological peak, the Empire had deciphered the universe's mysteries of birth and destruction, could artificially modulate spacetime, and had colonized trillions of parallel dimensions. Its research pursued ascension, dimensional descent, and uniqueness even after conventional technological development had reached its limit 787.

The Empire eventually perceived a prophecy of its own destruction. Its leadership treated this “civilization twilight” as an inescapable causal fate: resistance could only delay or alter the route to ruin, while inaction would still end in collapse. It therefore pursued the Future Escape Plan, the Past Escape Plan, and research into primordial spacetime's secret of creation 795 837.

Under Luo Zhen, its third emperor, the Empire entered the stars and consolidated absolute authority. The creation of the new Royal Knights ended its earlier policy of recruiting old-era powerhouses; those unwilling to submit were reclassified as destabilizing threats and purged 842 843.

Government and Society

• Absolute Emperor — The Emperor held every strand of state power directly. The Empire had no ministers; its formal pillars were the Order of Knights and the Academy of Sciences 888.
• Automated administration — Robots, intelligent AI, satellites, and pervasive surveillance could rapidly replace civil institutions and make crime difficult to conceal 888.
• Order of Knights — The Empire's principal military organization, including the Royal Knights and elite Giant God Soldiers 888 1069.
• Imperial Academy of Sciences — Its researchers combined modified human brains, exceptional inspiration, and supercomputer support. Scholars were valued for inspiration rather than calculation or memorization, which AI could perform more efficiently 893.
• Lower-class exploitation — Before Zhao Cheng's intervention, productivity gains did not benefit ordinary citizens. Debt systems and “voluntary” overtime compelled workers to create value for the Empire while remaining economically trapped 844 1024.
• Order as a resource — In one later imperial worldline, citizens were retained because obedience to the Empire's system generated the power of order; people unable to create value were treated as disposable components 1082 1083.
