Background

Qing Lin worked as a servant for the Desert Iron Mercenary Group in Stone Desert City, performing odd jobs for a small wage. Because she was a half-blood Snake-Person, other workers discriminated against her, verbally and physically abused her, and repeatedly stole her earnings, at times leaving her unable to buy food. Xiao Ding and others tried to protect her when present, but could not prevent the recurring abuse. Her mother's final wish—that Qing Lin live well—kept her from giving up despite her despair 14.

Tang Chen found Qing Lin while she was being attacked over food she had bought with her wages. He stopped the assault, praised her, and invited her to follow him, promising that she would no longer go hungry or be bullied. Qing Lin accepted, though her low self-worth made her choose to address him as “Young Master” rather than “Brother Chen” 14.

After leaving Stone Desert City, Qing Lin accompanied Tang Chen and was introduced to Xiao Yi Xian in the small valley. Initially nervous around strangers, she gradually relaxed under Xiao Yi Xian's kindness, while Xiao Yi Xian became protective after learning of Qing Lin's past 20.

Training and support gradually made Qing Lin more cheerful, composed, and confident.
