Background / History

Naruto spent an unknown number of years trapped in a cinema where he watched videos, including material identifying Naruto as a manga about his own life. The experience exposed him to his future techniques and broadened his understanding of the world. Time and repeated viewing tempered the formerly impulsive boy into someone with stable values, concealed emotions, and a firm personal ideology. He abruptly returned to Konoha while asleep in the Academy classroom. 3

After returning, Naruto entered his seal space and confronted the Nine-Tails by calling it “Kurama,” then recounting the histories of Hagoromo, Kaguya, Asura, Indra, Hashirama, and Madara. He identified himself as Asura’s reincarnation, unsettling Kurama and beginning an uneasy dialogue between jinchūriki and Tailed Beast. 5

Naruto initially blamed Kurama for his poor chakra control. When Kurama explained that the Eight Trigrams Seal converted its leaking chakra into Naruto’s own—and that Naruto simply lacked the capacity to manage it—Naruto apologized.
