Background

Xun Er was the Xiao Family's most favored daughter and grew up alongside Xiao Yan. Her affection for him was evident even in their early interactions, though Xiao Yan initially regarded her as a younger sister. She worried deeply over his decision to leave for training and was unsettled by Yao Wan's increasing involvement in his life 21 35 60.

Her first meeting with Yao Wan turned their unspoken rivalry into open hostility. Xun Er was initially courteous, but reacted angrily when Yao Wan stated that Xiao Yan was the only thing in the Xiao Family that interested her. Xun Er’s jealousy stemmed from both her feelings for Xiao Yan and Yao Wan’s material support for his cultivation 24 60.

At Jia Nan Academy, Xun Er waited for Xiao Yan rather than advancing to the Inner Academy without him, and she rejected other students’ pursuits because of her attachment to him. After the Black Annihilation Army took her back to the Gu Clan, Xun Er spent much of her time cultivating. She later forcibly left the Gu Realm to search Zhongzhou for Xiao Yan, having grown unwilling to accept the restrictions placed on her by the Gu Clan elders 294 312 384.

At the Gu Clan coming-of-age ceremony, Xun Er awakened her Divine Grade bloodline and challenged Yao Wan. She fought with the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame and the Burning Heaven Array, but was defeated. The loss did not end their tension, though it gradually pushed Xun Er to reassess Yao Wan and her own possessiveness toward Xiao Yan 562 563 565.

During the Heavenly Tomb expedition, Xun Er secured the Xiao Clan’s original entry spot for Xiao Yan and cultivated alongside him and Yao Wan. Xun Er later acted on Yao Wan’s warning that a Hun Clan spy might be guarding the Gu Clan’s Tuoshe Ancient Emperor Jade, agreeing to investigate the matter through her father. Her rivalry with Yao Wan exposes both her pride and her insecurity. Xun Er initially seeks to monopolize Xiao Yan’s affection and reacts harshly to the other women in his life, but later recognizes that Yao Wan had not actively tried to take Xiao Yan from her.
